Knowing you, you probably already made day 2. Keep it classy, San Diego.

What's this talk about another HU tourney? If that happens I'd like to donate... I missed the last one but would like to make it to this one and GL to anyone still in the main at TV.

Re: Sacramento, CA (Capitol Casino, Thunder Valley, Casino Royale, Limelight)

Hey Everyone!

It's been a while!

I thought I would stop by and try to get some feedback from the two plus two forums on something I've been working on.

Recently I have been asked to build a tournament program for the Stones Casino and test run it at the Lucky Derby. What I have now is very rough and will require some fine tuning. I was hoping to get some feedback in the forums.

My goal is to create a consistently run tournament that brings a lot of value to the players, including guaranteed prize pools, seat giveaways and freerolls. What I have set in motion so far is a very rough version of my final vision for what will go live at Stones.

I have always found inspiration in these forums. I feel like we have the opportunity to create something really amazing here for Sacramento! So tell me, what are the absolute essential qualities that a good poker tournament must have? What are some of the things that annoy you most. All feedback is much appreciated!

Glad to be back!
J

For your test run would you consider making 6 max and 4 max tourny's? Part of the reason I dont play many tourny's at the derby is they are always full ring.

Cheers

For the amount of felt that I have to work with at the Derby it would be hard to spread 6 max and 4 max tournaments and get any sort of substantial player field. This is definitely something I want to look into when we get to Stones as we will likely be opening with 17 tables.

We are already three weeks into our test run program. All events for now are playing full ring.

Can we get a peak at what the structures look like, Justin? Confident if you're running the show things will be done right.

Thank you for the vote of confidence CJ! The structures as with the program are in their infancy. I am in the process of test running and developing them into a polished tournament poker program. I think they are decent right now but I do have some improvements to make. Not sure posting them on here would be ok though so hit up my email and I would be glad to send them over! I would love to get your feedback on the current structures as there are a couple of different routes we could go with them!

It would be really cool if you formed a player committee that could help you with tournament ideas.

Justin,

Glad to hear Stones is gonna give some tournament love as the Derby has always. What I'd like to see is larger events, $200-500 range, with good structures that don't skip levels and include antes. Would you consider bringing in a small tour like 2pair Mag to do an event? That would be cool. As far as Weakly tournaments, I'm probably the wrong guy to ask, but I nominate ABarber and NP916 for any future player panel discussions.

I'm gonna come visit you soon buddy, what's a good event thurs-mon at Derby?

Congrats to my boy Allan for shipping the main tonight!!

As far as a weekly event. Something with a decent guarantee would bring in some numbers and you need bigger fields to create a meaningful prize pool.

I'm thinking 20-30k guarantee with a 185-225 buy in would get the job done. 150 runners would easily cover. Wouldn't happen overnight but something to work towards. Maybe the weekly is 15k and 25k guarantee each month...

A good structure and competent dealers and floor staff is obviously a must.

Always excited to hear about quality tournaments in our area.

Oh and definitely think a 2pair magazine tour stop would be perfect as we haven't had one in or around sactown yet.

This is a great idea! Barber, would you be willing to assist me with setting up something like this?

Nice to hear from you, it's been too long! I definitely have plans to do some bigger events at Stones so that is in the works. I am submitting upgraded structures and hope to have them in place by March. As far as bringing tours through, I'm not 100% opposed to it but the current direction the Stones is interested in taking is establishing their own tournament series. Of course none of this is set in Stone yet! .... Lol, sorry couldn't resist!

If you can play in the pm, check out Saturday night at 6:30pm. $125 buy in with a $5,000 guaranteed prize pool. You start with $17,000 in chips! The structure is decent right now. I have already identified some upgrades and plan on implementing those by March. I'd love to get your feedback on this tourney!

See you soon!
