Thanks in advance.
max at thunder is $300 at 1/3. Id suggest heading to Stones if your looking to play 1/3. table max buy in and just better games n place to play in general imo

I have only played tournaments at these two rooms but stones is non smoking also which is a plus for me. Even though the poker area is non smoking at TV you can't get out of there without smelling like an ashtray, if that matters to you.

Yea that is definitely a plus and surprisingly a big factor to a alot of ppl. IMO Stones is just the clear #1 place to play in Sac for a variety of reasons.

I second this. Having played at TV quite a bit and now switched to Stones, it is just better in every way. The buy-in structure is better, the dealers and staff are friendlier, the food is better, the ambiance and room itself are better.

Visiting Sacremento area for work. I hit up Thunder Valley and Stones this weekend both are pretty solid. Loved Stones, the no smoking inside is awesome and the service of the room was incredible. I certainly will hit that up again next weekend. Thunder Valley gets smokey due to it being a normal casino and serves is standard but thy had good games and will hit it again also.

Seems like a pretty solid poker city.

I've played 3 Thunder Valley sessions averaging 15 minutes per since they opened..Every decade or so, I need to be reminded how sh*tty the air quality is in the place..Wish I had decent long term memory

Stones is nice..I'd go there for PLO but it never seems to spread much anymore

TV is getting a new poker room right across from the current one. It will be closed off with a mini bar and maybe a lounge. We'll see.

That will be nice. Last time I played there, I was at a table next to the casino and it sounded like the circus was in town with all the slot/video noise.

I can't stand the smoke smell at TV. It's just too overwhelming. I played there once in the last year due to the same long term memory issues, apparently.

Unless they move the poker room outside, I wouldn't even go to check it out and I live 15 mins away.

I'm likely headed to Stones soon for their $1/2 game and/or low-stakes tournaments. Not many placed spread 1/2 anymore and the tournaments seem to have better structures than many of the other local places. Anyone think I shouldn't play either?

Stones tournaments are some of the best structured and most well run in the country in my experience.

Two games going if you're lucky, I think 1/3. Often there is no game at all. I went there once, there was no game, I sat at the bar next to a stack of dirty glasses while I had one beer and then left.

Not the most appealing place.

Does a regular 5/10 game run anywhere in town anymore? I know sometimes one will randomly break out in various places, but is there one that is fairly consistent?

No regular 5/10 in sactown but they always run during tournament series at TV which seem to occur every couple of months and getting more frequent now.

Just my two cents, but I find that the people addicted to smoking are often a little more degenerate in their gambling too. The quality of poker at TV is a bit lower than other casinos in Calif. If you are a rec player, then go to Stones or wherever and have fun. But if you take your poker seriously, the TV players are a little easier to get money from than your average card room regs. Again, just my impression.

I agree. I'm a confirmed ABC fish and I have done way, way better at TV than stones. It's a super small sample size, handful of tourneys at both and a few 1/2 sessions at stones only but the play seems tougher at stones for a rec.

I'm getting back into playing after a couple of years layoff, but the Stones 1/2 has much more action than TV 1/3 used to.

TV was frustrating because it was usually a short stack nit fest.

Stones 1/2 game is often going to be multiway for 7-10 bb. So you want to be careful with pf hand selection, because big pot showdowns are common.

I do recognize several former TV regs playing at Stones though.

Yes Stones 1/2 plays like TV's 1/3. I've been at tables where preflop pot are at $400+ going 4-5 ways at 1/2. There is no question Stone's 1/2 is very soft...I have no doubt about that. I've seen 200BB pot won by A high, it's unreal!

It all comes down to buyin structure. TV's buyin structure for 1/2 and 1/3 sucks which is why they are only able to run 1/2 on weekends. Been trying to convince them to change it to mirror Stones. Can't believe their Poker Room Director is so clueless. 1/2 rakes the same as a 1/3, 2/5 or 5/10 table.
