Every big cardroom has their own thread here, so why not one for the big ones in Sacramento. Thunder Valley is the home of the 5/10 on the wknds, and I am almost positive the 5/10 moved from Casino Royale to Capitol Casino. Plan on playing some there this week, will deliver trip report.

Post stories, insights, TR, rulings, etc here

A buddy of mine hit the super bad beat jackpot last week at Jackson. 50% of 113k is 56k. pretty sick.

look him up on the jackson website. you've met him before irl.

also, agreed. jackson is ridiculously nitty. I use to be a reg there but I stopped going because the action is depressing. During my last few trips I was known as the guy who CREATES action. When that happens I know I can find better fish in the sea.

Action decent on easter sunday night at Thunder valley but no 5/10 game. Had at least 4 2/5 games going for several hours, and 2 were still running at 5 am. There are some big time nits there but lots of gamblers too, a couple players got cut off from alcohol before last call, one of whom just open shoved ~375 with T4dd.

Capitol had a 5/10 game going friday night which looked pretty good but i just played 2/5. Definitely a good game. Be very careful at capitol though, i have heard a few stories of players, who cashed out pretty big, got followed home and robbed. Almost positive these stories are legit, so just keep your eyes open.

Confirmed Capitol is sketch, I would say casino royale is worse though. Also, Jackson seems to be pretty hit and miss, last few times I've gone the games have been shallow, nitty, and boring as ****

Capitol is in a very grimy part of town. If you watch yourself you should be fine.

I've only been there twice... last year. One of these days I'll make a trip up Sac and hit up these cardrooms again.

This is not promising news concerning capitol casino- what other rooms around here have such sketchy reputations? I would imagine limelight and casino royale are similar

thats so sick, nice BBJ win. I am going to be back in the Sac area for the summer (had to get a lolrealjob) and I was wondering about the capitol casino... I looked at its location on google maps, and it honestly looks super sketch.... would one be better off only leaving in the day time? Is there parking close to the front door?

parking close if your inside lot and security guards, but people have been known to follow you home. some guy won 5500 in a 5/10 game about a year ago and got robbed in his garage when he got home!

but yeah, I wouldn't leave at 5am ever lol

lol crazy, I doubt they would follow me, I am going to be between P'Ville and Jackson in the hills, its kinda far lol. Plus I drive it like its stolen on those back roads. I grew up in the country, so I never think about stuff like being robbed, seems so strange.

edit: Plus Im a huge live fish, so I generally spew my money and go home broke.

While limelight's poker room it's self has been robbed, i haven't heard of many players getting robbed outside/after leaving. During the week though, they virtually never have higher then 1/2 and in my experience it's hardly worth playing.

lol wut? I don't understand the basis of your post.

1. lol at playing one 5/10 game that is weak/noobish

my response: most tend to be decent games from what I have seen

2. I play at places multiple 5-10 games or gasp 25-25nl

thats awesome, why would you bring this up?? I clearly stated up there that 5/10 is the biggest running game in Sac (that I know of) and where it runs, with the same player pool.

3. you claim to be beating 2/5 on the wknds you must be some kind of pro

I said the games were not nitty as far as I knew and nowhere was I condescending in stating that the game was +EV for me.

4. You said weekday games borderline nitty interesting conclusion

well yeah, ive been a couple times during the week in the last 6 months and the games are usually tighter, less people to flop, more raising, etc

5. I dont play the nitty games I play for money and edges

hence me stating I would rather play a 2/5 or a 5/10 game on the wknd where there is money to be had.

even after responding to you, I have no idea what point you wanted to make

i live near sac and i play in the bay area A LOT and i would say that the games in the bay area are way better any day of the week day or night.i was not trying to make any point expect thunder valley is whack and sac area poker is whack in general.side note, never go to redhawk casino the floor man told me and my boy it was ok for the other players to discuss their hand IN THE MIDDLE OF A HAND AS LONG AS THE WHOLE TABLE HEARD WHAT THE PLAYER(S) WERE SAYING.so me and villian get in big pot were another player says he folded the straight and board was super scary guy calls me with top top.i was extremely mad and the floor said this is within the rules, when i assured him the wasnt ethical he told me he had been in the poker buisnees for 20 years AND THESE WERE THE RULES...lol me and my friend start laughing and dude.redhawk is major fail STAY AWAY.

^^^ glad you asked this
I've noticed that Silver Fox has been renamed "Lotus Casino". They had as the only advertising campaign some bus signs and wrapps. It caught my eye, seeing the bus near City College with that sign. Still haven't ventured in. I've been there just twice in the six years I've lived here.
I think it would take a lot for me to walk in there again. Like more than curiosity.
Would like to hear from anyone that HAS been there , though.

For those who think Capitol is in a "shady" area of town... go visit Silverfox or whatever they call themselves now... that is the definition of shady. Royale can be a bit shady at times, but nothing compared to the two already mentioned.

^^^ ditto on above.
Lets face it guys....in most areas, poker rooms aren't going to be on Main Street. Too much rent, floorspace, overhead, etc to put them in pricey areas. ( maybe that changes now )
So Capitol is in the north 16 St industrial area. Big Deal. 24-hour security on duty, fenced in parking, 24 hour restaurant (good food). What more do you want them to do? Its pretty nice. I can think of about a million other places I won't go to at 1100pm; Capitol I would. I have.
Same for Royale. same MO, same neighborhood description, same security, same fenced in parking. same decent food, not sure if its 24/7.
Lotus/Silver Fox...meh. Its on Stockton Blvd.....near Florin Road. But I guess they try for a secure area. I don't really know. It doesn't take a genius to know they must be up against some pre-concieved notions about the neighborhood they are in. South Sac makes the news every night- to the point that most people ignore it.
Prior posts mention the Limelight robbery. OK, lets mention the fact that now they have 24/7 security, and a locked door at night opened only by said security.
Its not all bad. These folks are in business to a) make a profit, and b) provide a service, namely poker and cards, to folks in Sacramento. Competition is good for all of us. I'm happy they are all here. I don't think the OP was looking for this kind of thread when he started same.

These places try real hard, even so- they don't need me defending them. I just don't like endless bitch sessions that accomplish nothing. All the places I go to have managers and floor people that will listen to your concerns, chat you up about it w/out being patronizing, and tell you if they can do anything about your concerns.
And they are run better than most rooms. I've played in a LOT of places that were much more sketchy than anything in this area. you guys have too. S==holes in Reno, Wendover, North Vegas, Marina, Florida racetracks- a lot of places where they were nearly the only game in town, or acted like it.
Notice how quick Capitiol is giving you 1.00 hour comps now, because of Thunder Valley. Notice how Limelight started shoring up security after the armed robbery (probably an inside job). Notice how Thunder Valley got some bad dealers out of the rota. Notice how Red Hawk moved their poker room to non-smoking downstairs and hired Kelley from Atlantis to run the operations now; and now have dedicated dealers instead of general floor personell.
Ok, enough. I'm not a shill for any card room, just a guy who has bought/sold a few businesses over the years, and can appreciate how hard it is being in a customer oriented business.
I do know, the best place to bring any concern about an operation is to that business owner, or his representative. they WANT YOU TO DO THAT. If they don't you stop going........don't you?

How would you guys rate all these casinos out of 10? Ive only been to couple of these casinos but def want to be playing a lot in the next couple of months. After hearing all the shady stuff, is Thunder Valley the best option overall?

You essentially have three options for poker in Sacramento tbh: Royale, Capitol and T.V. The other rooms in Sac are dead for action. I suggest you go to each, check out their loyalty programs and choose the best fit for yourself.

1. Royale: great loyalty program for grinders, great menu and service, good game selection
2. Capitol: decent loyalty program, decent menu and service (charges for waters, etc. though), good game selection
3. T.V.: what loyalty? (unless you're a table games/slots player), lots of food choices, meh service
