Good news for Tahoe... that weird casino next to Harvey's is going to become a Hard Rock... hopefully one more decent place to play.

I haven't seen anything about a poker room at the new Hard Rock in tahoe. Has anyone heard anything? From the silence I am assuming the worst.

They are opening a small poker room. I spoke with someone they hired to deal.

I am planning to check out the poker room at HR tomorrow after SB. If I get the chance, then I'll post a mini review or something. My expectations are low, so maybe they will surprise me.

I didn't know they had one. It gets almost no mention on their website for that location. It's probably a very small room with 1 or maybe 2 games going, one of which may or may not be no limit.

Years ago Hyatt lake tahoe had a 10/20 crazy pineapple hi-lo game that ran regularly. Other than that it was mostly 4-8 LHE with 1/2 blinds. Fun spot even if they don't have a poker room anymore. Be sure to report back and let us know.

They have a poker room but only one table (1-2 NL) when I was there a couple months ago. Game didn't seem to run during the day, think it was running like 6-2 or so on the weekends. Not sure if it runs during the week.

Game was fun and action packed. I like the whole casino, very cozy atmosphere.

I have a place in Incline Village, so I've played at this room quite a bit. The spread two games: 10/20 crazy pineapple hi/lo and 1/2 NLHE. They haven't spread 4/8 LHE in years. The room hours vary by season. July through August and the major holidays it's open 6:30 pm to 3 or 4 am seven days week. Outside of that room hours they're open Wednesday to Sunday. They only have 4 tables and no automatic shufflers. The action will be good at the times you expect: major holidays, weekends during ski season (provided there's snow), July to mid August.

Unless SLT sees a huge population boom, I can't figure how the HR could support the 3rd (and I use that loosely) poker room in town. Harvey's is clearly the go-to with Montbleu scraping together a game every once in awhile. SLT's population peaked in '01, then dropped by 10% in '10 and has flatlined since.

If it ever decides to snow here again and offer two full tourist seasons, that might help.

I was down in Tahoe in November and they closed monte blue. Caesars entertainment sucks. High rake, bad comps and dreadful dealers (not all the dealers). I highly hope that players will push to play hard rock over Harvey's. Unfortunately being that Harvey's and Harrahs is attached will help keep the fish pool more towards that room which in turn will keep the regulars there as well. I know I plan to play hard rock any and all opportunities I am in Tahoe

Sorry read my reply and realized that it was poorly written. Monte Blue's poker room closed not the whole casino

Those daily MTT/SNG's Montbleu ran were some great gambling value IMO. Average # drinks/rake paid was pretty good over the long-run.

Sad if those have been finally scrapped, loved playing them with friends whenever in town.

MTT at Montbleu? They got more than 10 people??

I'm not surprised they closed. I stopped by there the last few years when I was in town and they always had zero games running. I stopped checking.

I can't imagine a room in the Hard Rock succeeding. I'm kind of surprised Harvey's room manages to stay open.

I played in the Atlantis over the weekend. I'm a big fan of poker tournaments, and apparently Reno is not the place to be if you're like me. I checked pokeratlas to find all of the available tournaments. Its littered with $10-$20 10AM tournaments, and in my experience elsewhere, at that low money and that early you generally get poor blind structures and smaller fields. So I went with the Atlantis tournament for $50 at 11AM. Where I'm from, if you pay $50 for a poker tournament, you get a decently legitimate poker tournament. This is not the case at the Atlantis.

The blinds were fairly standard through the late entry/re-entry period. As soon as that ended, the blind jumps get straight-up stupid.

300/600 (level 6, end of late entry)
500/1000/100
1000/2000/200
2000/4000/400
4000/8000/800

You shouldn't even be able to advertise this as a poker tournament. It is designed to do one thing only: get your money, get you knocked out quickly. You could buy into this tournament at the end of the buy-in period, check/fold repeatedly and 21 minutes later have 3 big blinds left. I admit it is my fault for not checking into the blind structure before paying, but is this how all of the daily poker tournaments are in Reno? Are there any that have a legitimate blind structure and a field of players that regularly gets above 1-2 tables? Was my only mistake playing in the morning tournaments? Are afternoon tournaments legitimately structured?

I just wanted to post this to get some info on where to find a good tournament in Reno if I visit another weekend, and also as a warning to other tournament players: check your blind structure, and don't play Atlantis's daily 11am.

I'm probably going to be in town the first few days of April. If anyone else will be around and interested in chatting or something, let me know. There is a chance I will move to the area and I would love to know more about it.
