A friend of mine I'd going to PR soon and wants recommendations for playing. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

There's a subforum in the Brick and Mortar thread called "Poker Venues." I'd be surprised if some of the venues listed are not in PR and there's a bounty of knowledge in those threads.

when i went 2 years ago i stayed on isla verde and the only poker games i saw were 2 2/5 games at the intercontinental...pretty sure they only start in the evening and the casinos close at 4 or 5 so i bet they go till then...saw poker tables at the ritz but no dealers or players, you could maybe check there as well...isla verde is great

I like surf so for vacation aspect I much preferred the Marriott as it is on a beach that gets waves, body-surfable. Ritz is on a reef protected bay with no surf. Pretty but a snoozer if you enjoy surf (my wife would prefer the Ritz's beach, no surprise).
Marriott closer to Old San Juan, Ritz is very close to the airport. I think I might actuallly prefer the Marriott overall, poker notwithstanding.
I just stayed there and can confirm this is still the game at the Marriott. It is basically 5/10 LIMIT holdem, with $2/$5 blinds, except you can bet/raise $5 or $10 preflop and on the flop. Turn and river bets are always $10. Rake is 10% up to $10, which I think is unbeatable. The play is often really bad, so you do have a shot at winning short term. The game was mostly locals speaking spanish, but most of them also spoke english. The dealer also clarified all action in english and spanish. They have three tables and one of them has a shufflemaster. The players and dealers seemed to be obsessed with color-ups. The dealer would color up every pot, so someone would need to color-down almost every hand. This really slowed down the game. I think the game only runs Fri-Sun. If you must have NL, the locals recommended the intercontinental.

The casino also has roulette, craps, backjack and slots. The hotel was nice and I would stay there again.

Like others have said, don't go to puerto rico for the poker. Go for the nice weather and beach.

Also, does the Ritz-Carlton still have a $125 tournament every Sunday eve? What is the start time? Any late entry?

any info of Puerto Rico or were to play u can contact me.

There are several leagues that play outside of casinos. They have from $30 reentrys to $225 on the weekends. Pretty nice structures.

Also live game are in the Casinos and private homes. Mostly 1-2 and 2-5 games.

Intercontinental Hotel in Isla Verde
Mayaguez Casino
Ponce Hilton ($40k royal jackpot)
Marriot Hotel Condado

Most of us play at the leagues and they play everyday at different venues.

Thanks for the info and offer. Unfortunately, it came a little late. I just returned from vacation in PR today.

420, I vacation in Isabela , near shacks beach every winter, are there any home games or places to play near there? 1/2 or 2/5, I like tournaments too. The casinos just seems kinda lame with the rake and style, although I've never been to them.
Thanks !

Is the Marriott with the 5-10 game the Marriott Stellaris Casino or a different Marriott? I'm staying at the Stellaris for like six days in December; while I probably won't play much, could be a good late night option. Do the games go through the night?

Far as I know, home games in PR are usually penny-ante -- no higher than 50NL.

Not sure where you can find one though. Sorry.

I was just googling about this the other day. I see a twitter page for Poker in Purto Rico, and it looks to advertising games thursday-sunday at Casino Real.

And this blog http://paulmetheney.com/poker-puerto-rico2/ seems to indicate games at the ritz carlton and the Intercontinental.

Thread Bump

Will be spending a couple of nights at the Marriott Stellaris casino before taking a cruise. What is the current state of casino poker in San Juan? Prefer 1/2, 1/3 or 2/5 NLHE cash games but limit up to mid stakes, Omaha or even stud are all fine. Where are the games? How are the games? Staying at Marriott but can get around San Juan if needed. Updates to current info much appreciated.

Two databpoints...I stayed at Stellaris three years ago for one night. About 830 in evening on a Thursday they had a single limit HE table going, I think 4/8. While I waited they opened a 2/5NL table that I understood at the time to be their first ever NL game.

Flash forward to this week. I am planning a return trip to PR and called Stellaris to see about poker. Poker room said they play limit poker every night, sometimes open NL if there is interest. I did not query limits.

There is also Casino Metro about ten min cab ride away.

As of Jan two games in town in Puert RICO. Marriott resort on beach. And a casino downtown. 1-2 or 1-3 cash at night. Noisy as hell. But very soft games. Don’t expect English only. Half the dealers did not speak English

Played last night at the Sheraton for about 2 hours. There were 2 full tables and I had to wait about a half an hour to get a seat. Game was incredibly soft with lots of badregs. Apparently they let you buy in from your credit card right at the table cause a few guys did it, one guy was down almost 2k.

Would definitely love to go back sometime when my wife isn't hovering over me lol

Anyone hear of any PLO in San Juan or nearby enough to catch a cab?

Also, if anyone is in PR currently, I'd love to hang out and meet some new people.
