First let me say this is and extremely small sample size (2 hours).

I stopped in for a couple of hours last last week just passing through town. I was very surprised at how much action there was for 3pm on a Thursday. i would guess they had 8 maybe 10 games going form 2-5nl down to 1-2 limit. I did see a 2-5 PLO 08 interest list and I think they had 2 different 1-2 games going. 100 max and a larger buy-in game

I didn't have much time so I took the only seat they had open in a 4-8 limit game. Pretty standard lose passive game with 4-6 to flop. I think I made 70% of the preflop raises.

If they don't break all the players the room should do well. They have a $2 jackpot drop and a $5 max rake. so with a tip $8 goes down the pipe in a 1-2 limit game. LOL

I played there Sunday and heard a rumor that the entire operation (poker and dogs) will relocate just off I-10. A tract of land is being looked at for this new facility. No time frame. Has anyone else heard this?

This past weekend was their busiest since they opened. They attribute it to lots of BP workers in the area for the Gulf clean up effort. I played with 3 at my table, so sounds legit. Their busy times seem to be Thurs & Fri evenings, Saturday, and Sundays until about 7pm. You get a good percentage of tourists as well as local Navy guys looking to drink and play some poker. Plenty of soft spots, especially at the 1/2 NLHE $100 max buy-in games. Plus, with their BBJ routinely eclipsing $100,000 a lot of these players are sitting there hoping to just get a table share when it hits. As the previous poster noted, there's very little pre-flop raises and a 3-bet may happen once an hour at these 1/2 games.

There's usually just one 2/5 NLHE game running which often time will turn into a 2/5 PLO game if there's enough interest. They run 2 types of 1/2 NLHE games -- one with a $100 max buy-in and the other with a $400. Usually 3x as many $100 games than $400 games running.

Still nothing in the June report either and they've been opened since January. Compared to Ebro's numbers I'd have to guess that Pensacola's daily revenue numbers are in the $13k-$18k ballpark.

I heard some kid got arrested there yesterday. There was not a big scene and the security did not say why. They just said something about it being on tape. Does anyone know what happened?

I decided to just ask one of the friendly dealers I know What happened on Tuesday. He said that the bad beat jackpot was hit (I think it was just north of $100k). He gave me a recap of the hand, dealer, and players. No mention of any arrests, but I suspect employees may have been told not to mention anything (bad press, especially considering their location). I got this vibe from the dealer too.

Since their 7pm tournament was going on most of the regs were participating in that, so I couldn't ask them. Will see what additional info I can find this weekend.

I heard that the person was caught "attempting to steal" or grabbing at chips on the cage counter. He supposedly dropped them when someone re-entered the cage area, but they said they had it on camera...of course they did.

Maybe this will be more clear.... Guy walks up to cashier counter...no one there...he grabs at chips behind counter...gets spooked and drops chips....he is on camera and is supposedly banned from the track.

Yup, hear the same story today, except that he grabed the chips on Monday (after cashing in the tournament no less) and returned to the poker room Tuesday where he was arrested.

Played out there yesterday. Mouth-breather central.
The floor manager, Kelly, was super friendly, too. She was looking for you, alpha.

Anyone play here recently? I may go during the first of the year to check it out.I have never played live before and may play a 1/2 game and see how I do. Seems like with the rake/tip/Bad Beat Jackpot it would be hard to make a large profit... No?

Tonight at 7pm there is a $50 buyin tourney with a $300 bounty for knocking me out, and the same (or is it $100 buyin?) tomorrow at 1pm.

Last night after busting the tourney, I started a dealer's choice game. Play a round of whatever you pick when it's your turn, as long as they are allowed to spread the game. If you pick NL or PL games, blinds were $1/2; if limit the blinds were $2/4. We all had a good time playing 2-7 triple draw, A-5 single draw NL, stud 8, razz, crazy pineapple hi-lo, etc.

Later, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

P.S. - this was all at the Pensacola Greyhound Poker Room, in case that wasn't obvious.

Just recently moved into the area and was wondering what is play like at the Pensacola Dog Track? Also, does play differ from the weekdays/nights to the weekends. I moved from the LA area so using that as my frame of reference am I in for a ridiculous change of scenery (poker-wise)?

I have not played there in 3 months but I probably have over 500 hours in the room. Anything you want to know?

Safe, clean, well run, legit games? I was a little concerned because it is not a traditional casino plus no recent posts here. But based on your reply, I assume--given that you played that many hours there--it is a good place to play.

If you are asking about the area around the dog track then it is pretty trashy.
