Heard if (When) it passes, opening could be Fall 2018 for Hard Rock in Kings Mountain.

This is all hearsay of course.

Also, a 3rd stop just adds a cherry on top
That NC and surrounding areas can sustain poker. I'm hoping Hard Rock sees this, invests the $ and uses Poker to bring people in and fund the rest of the establishment: pits, food, bar, hotels, shops.

I'm in a dream world but believe somethig similar to Hard Rock Hollywood would work in Kings Mountain. *fingers crossed* for the pipe dream

I think they are still working with the Feds to get the approvals.

I guess my biggest concern for the long-term health of a place like this is when one day a casino opens up outside of Atlanta, or Charlotte, etc. Guessing there's nothing like that on the near-term horizon, but casinos have a way of popping up (even the Bible Belt won't resist the $$ forever...)

Seems that would be pretty devastating to a place like Cherokee.

(Happened up North... Wheeling WV used to have poppin casinos, but Pittsburgh/Cleveland/Columbus since opened up shops, and now they are ghost towns, compared to the old days).

A casino around Charlptte would destroy the business here from anyone east of Asheville pretty much. And would be fantastic for us North Carolinians that fit the bill.

Never really spent much time thinking about it, but you're right... Cherokee definitely has that Atlantic City in the 90's/early 2000's feel. If/when anything goes up in either the Charlotte area (Kings Mountain) or metro Atlanta, it's probably going to put a huge dent in their business.

Don't forget it's been almost 5 years since the 1st proposal was made and it's been crickets until now. I'd say even if the Bill was approved we're at least 7-10 years out until a card hits the felt. But I hope I'm wrong...

Yes, the tick-tock might take 3/5/10/15 years... I would just predict that, long-term, Cherokee is at fairly high risk for ghost town status.

Cherokee will fight tooth and nail with "campaign contributions " and the like to make sure this doesnt happen. As much as I would like it too.

Yeah, you're probably spot-on here.

Had a measure on the ballot here in CO several years back that would allow "casino style gaming" at the 3 horse tracks in the state (didn't pass) and the existing casinos lobbied hard against it. The big opposition to the measure was one of those "Parents Against Gambling"-type committees that was heavily funded by the existing casinos.

I'm sure that's true, but *eventually* there will be a casino in some proximity that pops up. Charlotte; SC; Atlanta; Eastern Tennessee...

The question is definitely 'when', not 'if'

As someone that has traveled, including out of country, for the past 3 years, I'm very PRO this Casino. Since it's a HardRock I'm like 90% positive there will be some sort of poker room, unlike the Valley River Casino Cherokee has built.
Only 5 years later....but looks like we are 10-14 months out

Any info yet on whether this Catawba casino will have poker?

Would be a real bummer if it didn’t.

I haven’t heard anything but with the size of the Charlotte poker scene they’d be dumb not to. Another reason to convince poker degens to bring there wife’s to play slots for them

Awesome. I live on the east side of Raleigh and could def. day trip this. Cherokee is just too far. Not sure if you all saw but there is another casino that is in the works in Danville VA (little over an hour from Raleigh) that should be complete somewhere around 23-24 if it gets final approval this fall:

Cherokee is finally gonna have some competition.

Looks like the King’s Mountain casino is a full go and there will be gaming in a temporary gaming facility this summer as the construction happens.

Have heard nothing on whether there will be poker yet though.

Ya I saw the passed the ability to have table games, pretty big hurdle. Would be absurd not to have Poker due to the success at Cherokee, but guess we wait and see.
