Have scoured this forum for any 2+2'ers that play at either Sandia or Inn of the Mountain Gods to no avail. So hopefully this thread will encourage those who do to step out of the shadows and post!

I'm also looking for some info about Inn of the Mountain Gods. Anybody know the rake and how many average 2/5 and 5/10 get going?

505 in the house! Once a week at Buffalo Thunder since Black Friday, occasionally at Sandia (mostly for sunday donkaments) and once in a long while I get over to Santa Ana.

I play mostly at the Inn because I live in El Paso and it's closer. But lately, I have been making the drive to Querque because I like the room / staff and variety of games more. At Sandia I have been playing mostly limit, 10/20 and 20/40, with a bit of NL, 1/2, 1/3, 2/5 thrown in the mix. At the Inn I play 1/2 or 2/5 might even play 5/10 this weekend.

The rake at the Inn is same as Sandia, I believe 10% $3 max. Usually on the weekends they have one or two 2/5 tables going, one 5/10 table going and usually like 4 or 5 1/2 tables going. One night I even saw a 10/20 table going I couldn't believe it! The games are very, very juicy I haven't ever sat at a table without at least 4 soft seats. Very easy to make 6+ buyins in 4-6 hours just playing ABC poker and not running particularly great. While this is true of many NL games I have noticed the players at Sandia are in general much tighter and not willing to stack off with TPGK, at the Inn they are more than willing to stack off 200+ BB's with TPNK.

Before you go you should be aware of the many rules the card room has. No phones / electronic devices allowed in the poker room, I.E. no headphones. If you wear a hoodie you can't have your hood up, they enforce the betting line rule so be careful with your chips. They have a 4-bet cap on NL games so only 4 bets per street allowed. Verbal is binding even out of turn, so if you were to say something like if you bet I will put you all-in you'd be committed to go all in. That's about all I can think of for now but they have many more rules that seem isolated to that casino.

I'm looking to start playing at Sandia, and if this is true I will be pretty happy. I'm from AZ originally and all the casino's I've played at there are roughly 10% $6 max.

I don't play it but I don't think its soft. I think Buffalo Thunder is generally tougher than Sandia because there's a lot of regs that have been playing together for a long time (in August 2008, the poker room moved from Cities of Gold to BT, I used to go to Cities and I still see the same crowd from those days). Lately, a 20/40 mixed game has been running more than the 5/5 PLO/PLO8 game that was running a lot last year. Both of those games attract the better regs and the regs that are scared of it always say its crazy and you need to sit with a lot of money (read: more than they can afford). As a 1/2NL player, I love when either 20/40 or 5/5 are running because the better, more aggressive players sit over there and 1/2 becomes a limpfest of the fishiest regs, plus some Texans on vacation there to play golf during the day/gamble at night. Of course a lot of people move back and forth between BT and Sandia, depending on how high the bad beat jackpot is at Sandia.

On the other hand, any game at BT is probably soft by 2+2 standards. The advantage of playing a bunch of regs that have been playing each other for years is that they live in a vaccuum. They just play, they don't study, they don't follow poker news, they don't care much about the WSOP(or tournaments in general, most of the time scheduled tournaments get canceled so don't ever drive to BT hoping to play a tournament) and only a few of them ever go to Vegas.
I'm kinda liking it there lately, but i've been running like god there since Black Friday.

Play mostly at the inn. Tribe is old school and wont allow phones or headphones at the tables. Easy to spot fish, regs, and rocks. There people that have been playing there forever. Been to sandia, they have the best room in new mexico. They have some juicy limit action. Santa ana is pretty much garbage. The inn could make alot of improvments to the room by knocking down that wll to the tournament slots and making tournament poker area. There big buy in tournaments usually have big turn outs.

Do they still play that crazy 4-8 limit game weekends at Sky City? That "truckers" game was at one time one of the wildest games in the country.

the 5/10 that starts up on saturday is yummy. Bunch of business owners it's pretty much a regulars tables, they all know each. I've watch that table for a little over a year since i've been doing up there occasionally. Got a 2/5 roll with a the ability to take a shot at the 5/10 probably going to go one of these weekends in May.

you are talking about The Inn or BT? I've been scouting the 5/10 at The Inn and it sounds like you are talking about this game cause i see a bunch of oldtimers with blacks and greens and they toss them around like antes

I'm moving to Santa Fe in the next month or so. I've been hearing you guys speak mostly of limit games, but what about the 1/2 and 2/5 NL games? I'm assuming they're soft as shiat (like all live poker) but just wanted some input from any of those who have played at buffalo thunder, sandia, and the inn before.

Bingo! Inn they pretty much like to do flips till everyone can get in deep. Sometimes they like to just raise it to 10/20.

I'll chime in as an occasional Sandia customer, though I think I've only been to the casino once in the last nine months... I typically play the 3/6 limit game, but will sit at 2/4 or 4/8 if the 3/6 list is long. The one time I was up there was earlier this month (Sat, May 7 -- I think it was less busy than the typical Saturday night because of the Pacquiao boxing match), and the 3/6 game had a must-move table. It was neat once I got to the main table, but at times the must-move was down to 5- or 6- handed.

jeez, i didn't realize Flip was gone, that little old dude used to wear a baseball cap that said "100% Chingon"...I've been going there more and more lately, no wonder I haven't seen him.

BT tournys are hit or miss...its a cash room. Often the evening tourneys don't run because they can't fill a whole table without one of the other games breaking. Today (Saturday) at 5pm is their monthly $240 "deep stack"...I might try to play it, I know it ran last month with around 15 players. NEVER go to BT with the intention of playing a tourney, it may not actually happen. Since its only a 25 minute drive for me, I'll call at 4:30 and see if any have signed up, I might even wait until 5 to call and see if it actually happens and just miss the first level.

Anyone frequent the Hardrock (old Isleta).. they have alot of smaller tourneys, played a 3 in row the other day, chopped 2. Soft action, basic tourney skills and a little aggression go a long way there.

Sandia has tons of soft 1/2 action, easy to table select. Also been playing 1/3 on a regular, 2/5 runs during peak/weekend hours, usually 1 table, but when it fires up it's easier pickings at 1/2 when the 3-5 descent players leave for 2/5.
