Interesting and funny that the guy from Plainridge showed up with his $400k check just in case lol.

Read that Suffolk Downs handed over $400k to the Gaming Commission last week. The ball is rolling!

MGM will be releasing it's plans for downtown Springfield on Wednesday. Should be intriguing!

They bailed out on the original Brimfield proposal they had, which they stated was due to logistical issues like traffic and water/energy supply among other things. They stated they were still looking into other opportunities.
From a casino owners perspective, Downtown Springfield is a significantly better location and I hope it ends up in Springfield as opposed to a rural location like Palmer.

Here is MGM's pretty impressive presentation. I was able to go to it and they seem very committed to this project.

I haven't been to Springfield in like 10 years, but isn't it kinda of a ****hole?
Like lots of poverty and crime? Just wondering...

Not so much much where the location is planned. The Downtown really does not deserve the reputation it has. I have spent so much time down there working and drinking day and night over the years and never had any issue whatsoever. I am thrilled with this proposal and I think it has tremendous potential if built.

Have there been any polls or information on voting trends regarding Rhode Island's ballot for table games this November?

Last I heard it was likely to pass, but I have nothing credible to link to.

I work with, not for, the architecture firm that is planning the casino at Suffolk.

They say it is going to be gorgeous. They also said they are going to build direct routes to the casino.

This is happening.

I hope so.
Actually, traffic should be a bit less of a problem than many think, since people tend to arrive and depart casinos in fairly steady streams, not all at once during rush hours, or like sporting events.

Well NH had their primaries last week and the 2 Gov. candidates both support a casino in NH. Ovide(R) is only in support of 1 casino at Rockingham Park and no place else. Hassan(D) is also in favor of casino gaming but once again only in support of 1 casino and she wants the license to go to the highest bidder. Voting is Nov. 6th.

Makes me wonder what the legislature will come up with for a casino bill seeing that all other bills they tried to pass made way for 2 casinos in the state. Shall be interesting.

Just got back from my annual NE trip back home. Managed to squeeze in some play at FXWD, Rock, Manchester and briefly at Mohegan. Nice to hear that a casino at Rock is in the plans- its the only locus that makes any sense from a population and highway access standpoint. I rented my car at Logan from Advantage, which is directly next to Suffolk Downs. All other things being equal, Rockingham is a superior site to Suffolk, ease of access, and Harrahs really knows that they will need some major traffic shoring to make it better to get to Suffolk Downs. However, CET/Harrahs knows the game and what they need to do, so I'd expect them to do well at first.
Rock poker hasn't changed, The place is dumpy, dirty, the games/limits suck, (state regs), food is sketchy/linty, the MTTs are just ok. I may write them off permanently.
I ended up playing an MTT with some Rock denizens at FX.
Walked in and out of Milford, NH. The place was open 30 mins on a Sunday and NO ONE was there.
Played an MTT at Manchester. Sunday, killing time, watched the PAts, on my way to Mt Washington Hotel. I have no need to ever return to this establishment. They demonstrate clearly why there should only be ONE gaming casino license in NH- they cannot be a serious contender.

Hey- I'm spoiled. I hit 30 states a year minimum. LV 4X yearly, and LA 6x. Outside of FX, and Mohegan for three hours of cash games, nothing memorable happened on the poker front in NE. Sadly, most of you guys know it as well- you are getting taken, hosed, and re-hosed by the poker operators in the Northeast. No service, lousy food, poor dealers, awful MTT structures.
Best poker place, in NE- Foxwoods, by a mile. any size game, any type of MTT, food and dealers have improved greatly since they now kep their tokes.
Best surprise of the year- Gulfstream Park- great location, walk out the poker room door to the finish line of the racetrack- I hit the hot hand for 250.00, and then a trifecta for 550.00 within ten minutes.
Best place I wan to play more at- Ameristar, BlackHawk, CO. A live, juicy and low skilled 2-5 NLgame- yep, right here.
Best mixed game venue- The Grand Series at Golden Nugget. You think you are a good stud or razz player? Try cashing here. I cashed in HORSE, and it was a tourney highlight for the year in that field. Hon.Mention to the HORSE Tues PM MTT at MGM Grand, hosted by Karina Jett.
Great poker room that need a hotel- Mohegan/Pocono Downs. watch out when this place builds a hotel, Atlantic City. world class harness racing as well.

counting down the days until real gaming comes to Massachusetts......

I still don't think a casino will add to the traffic in East Boston. It's not like a sports/concert arena, where everyone shows up and leaves at the same time. Hotels get built all the time without causing fears of traffic increasing.

Yes but hotels are usually just hotels. A casino will draw 2, 5, 25k? cars per day. I agree it won't destroy traffic in the area, but adjustments would be needed.

fingers crossed here on the twin river voting, wish I could vote but live in Mass. But I am only 20 min from twin river. If this is passed will most likely be poker there like 100x faster than anything happening in MA anytime soon.

Hoping Twin Rivers gets a poker room also as MA is looking at 2014 for 1st license and 2017 for the first casino to be opened.

I apologize in advance if this has been covered in another thread. If so, point me there and close this thread... (But I searched and didn't find anything good)

I live pretty close to Port Jefferson on LI, so the BridgePort CT Ferry is convenient. I'm trying to figure out details about the commuting options between Bridgeport & Mohegan Sun (without using my car)..

1. What's the best method? (Bus, Train, etc.)
a) Is there one company that has the best deals?
b) If I decide to spend the night, do they let you return next day (assuming round trip deal)?
c) Do you have any Good/Bad experiences to share?

2. How much time do you get to play with the above option of choice?
a) Is it only enough time to play some quick Cash Games or SNGs?

3. Are there more options in Summer or a certain time of year?

4. Any other info that would be helpful?

Why wouldn't u just drive ?

I've never done it, but was curious to research it since I've driven up a few times over the summer. There's pretty much no benefit from taking a ferry and then bus/train. Bus looks about the same time as driving and a train would take an hour longer. Also those go to Foxwoods, I didn't see much going directly to Mohegan, although I didn't research it too deeply.

It wouldn't be worth it to go just for the day. I'd stay overnight, then you wouldn't need to worry about how long you can play.

You have FW options also, but if you specifically want MS:

http://www.mohegansun.com/getting-here/bus-ct.html

There are 2 options. Dattco or Greyhound.

I've used Dattco before with no issues but that was always chartered trips, not the normal line runs.

Dattco has 3 schedules. The Daily-AM has a pickup right at the Ferry (For $40 vs. the normal $28)

You get vouchers for $25 or $30 worth of food/slot play. Not sure if you get anything else if you pay the $40 from the ferry.

All 3 routes have a pickup in Stratford so you would need a few minute cab ride if you were going on the Daily-PM or Fri/Sat late night, or didn't want to pay the extra $12 from the ferry on the Daily-AM route.

I'm not familiar with Greyhound. I know there is a pickup in Bridgeport, just not sure where.

And I say this half kidding, but if you are not familar with Bridgeport, don't wander off with the wrong colors

I am sure taking the Ferry and a bus would not only be cheaper, but more stress free. Driving around (through NYC and along CT Coastline) is a horrific drive, so that's out. The Ferry costs almost $40 less for walk on passengers without cars, not to mention the gas for 80 Mile 1 1/2 Drive once I got to the other side.

I can leave my car at a friends house near Port Jefferson, and enjoy a nice peaceful ferry ride followed by a nice peaceful bus ride. That has to be +EV when I get to the tables, don't ya think?

PS. Thank you to the mod that moved my post to the right place.. Unfortunately however, now it seems the question will get lost in this abyss of a mile-long thread FML...

You could probably ask the question in the Mohegan Sun thread as well. It would get more eyeballs and probably a better answer.
You could probably try calling or emailing MS, they would probably be able to help you out. I remember being at a business thing in Stamford a few years ago without my car or easy internet access so I called and after a minute or so they got me to a smart person who spent like 10 minutes going over just about every option and the costs. It was very helpful and I was at the casino a couple hours later!

Certainly we are all counting down the days to Mass. casinos. But aren't you the guy who posted in the foxwoods thread that all the foxwood regs 'don't know what a good thing we have in foxwoods?' Maybe for hold em players.

New England is the worst region in the country for poker variants that don't include hold 'em.
