Multiple Forces attacking thriving Portland Poker Scene Multiple Forces attacking thriving Portland Poker Scene

Looks like multiple forces, including the competition in neighboring Washington State, are going after Portland's growing poker culture. One popular club was fined 59,000 and closed 2 days later. Hopefully the city won't pull a Big Brother Black Friday type shutdown taking away an enjoyable activity for thousands of players.

I'm fine with the government enforcing existing labor laws and holding that the dealers are employees and not volunteers.

Ugh. I used to live in Portland before Black Friday. I loved the La Centre poker room and the staff who work there for the most part but stopped playing based on bad house rules and money saving decisions. The last time I played there I ask for a deck change because the shuffler was crimping cards. I was told no, that even though at least around a quarter of the deck was clearly "marked." The reason I got for the deck change denial was that all the shufflers did it and a new deck would get ruined too and they weren't going to waste the money. I basically told a dealer and a floor the shuffler was making a large portion of the deck semi identifiable to me and no one cared

Also unless things have changed La Centre doesn't have NL because of state gaming laws so it's basically all limit and the poker clubs are the exact opposite. In order to work around the laws the Portland clubs were strictly NL
