Re: Minnesota

They just raised the max bet to $100. Also, there are quasi NL games that are couched as tournaments. More restrictions and a bigger rake, but its an option. They are super soft too.

Spent the week in Minneapolis area.

Running Aces -- 4-8 limit and 4-100 spread limit regular games, omaha rare but interesting to play spread limit when it went.

Canterbury park -- All levels, including a $50-$100 mixed o*o/8 or o and he. 6-12 1/2 kill omaha (to 10/20) All limit, some 2 hour tournaments NL or PLO where you keep with what you survive with after 2 hours. I vote it the most passively hostile place for a tourist to play.

Did I mention that they hate tourists? Players, Dealers, Floor. I think the Janitor even gave me dirty looks.

Very soft games during graveyard.

The small indian casino there does have a poker room, but biggest games is 2-6 spread limit hold'em.

The large indian Casino near Canterbury has no poker.

Re: Minnesota

What limit does Running Aces spread their O/8? I like to play, but can't afford Canterbury's $6-20 game. Are there certain days it's more likely to go?

And could you describe "passively hostile"?

Re: Minnesota

so, thinking of playing some poker when I get back to MN in September. I have Thursdays free. Is it true that Running Aces offers $5/Hr to sit in their games M-Th? That's... really non-awful, as far as rakeback goes.

edit: also, what's the rake like? The flat $5 in socal is brutal, but I can't imagine MN being better?

Re: Minnesota

Rake in MN for the lower limit games, at least, is typically $5 w/ $1 jackpot. It's brutal, but the games are generally very soft.

Re: Minnesota

Hey all... I am considering moving to Minnesota in a few months -- Minneapolis suburbs, to be exact -- and wanted to get a better idea of the No Limit Cash Game scene out there.

I know it is illegal in casinos. Are there a lot of private/underground/home games, and are they easy to find and get invited to?

Here in NYC, poker is illegal in all forms and yet I can play 1/2, 1/3, 2/5 and 5/5 any night of the week, usually within walking distance from my office. The rake is sky-high compared to casinos but the players are even worse, and the max buyin is almost always 200bb or more...

I've heard all about the "survivor tournaments." Haven't tried any but it honestly doesn't sound that exciting. I would much rather play in a real no limit cash game, even if it is illegal.

Failing that, is there anything reasonable within driving distance? Anything across the border in Iowa, for instance? (I know there is some action in Council Bluffs but what about along I-35?)

Re: Minnesota

Will certainly do, thanks. Anything non-sensitive you can tell me in the meantime? Just a general idea. This may sound degen but it actually has some non-zero influence over my decision to move there

This funny-looking casino just over the border in Northwood, IA (1h45m drive from Minneapolis) claims to have no-limit. Anyone know anything about it? http://www.diamondjoworth.com/play/poker

Re: Minnesota

We don't talk about illegal activities here on 2+2.

I'm too new to this area to reliably answer your other questions. I would if I could.

Re: Minnesota

Sorry, my bad for making it too explicit in my original post. Just to clarify, I'm certainly not asking for specific information on games, just a general idea along the spectrum of "yes, tons of games everywhere and new players are welcome" to "no, everyone just plays limit at the casinos." And also on how far into Iowa I'd have to drive in the latter case
