Looks like Northern Lights is the closest room. No no limit in Minn?? LOL! This was surprising news.

They just raised the max bet to $100. Also, there are quasi NL games that are couched as tournaments. More restrictions and a bigger rake, but its an option. They are super soft too.

Spent the week in Minneapolis area.

Running Aces -- 4-8 limit and 4-100 spread limit regular games, omaha rare but interesting to play spread limit when it went.

Canterbury park -- All levels, including a $50-$100 mixed o*o/8 or o and he. 6-12 1/2 kill omaha (to 10/20) All limit, some 2 hour tournaments NL or PLO where you keep with what you survive with after 2 hours. I vote it the most passively hostile place for a tourist to play.

Did I mention that they hate tourists? Players, Dealers, Floor. I think the Janitor even gave me dirty looks.

Very soft games during graveyard.

The small indian casino there does have a poker room, but biggest games is 2-6 spread limit hold'em.

The large indian Casino near Canterbury has no poker.

What limit does Running Aces spread their O/8? I like to play, but can't afford Canterbury's $6-20 game. Are there certain days it's more likely to go?

And could you describe "passively hostile"?

so, thinking of playing some poker when I get back to MN in September. I have Thursdays free. Is it true that Running Aces offers $5/Hr to sit in their games M-Th? That's... really non-awful, as far as rakeback goes.

edit: also, what's the rake like? The flat $5 in socal is brutal, but I can't imagine MN being better?

Rake in MN for the lower limit games, at least, is typically $5 w/ $1 jackpot. It's brutal, but the games are generally very soft.

And also on how far into Iowa I'd have to drive in the latter case
Diamond Jo's Casino in Iowa is a 2-hour drive on I-35. That's your best bet for a legal no-limit game.

Running Aces (about 30 minutes north of Minneapolis, also on 35) has a $2-$100 spread-limit game (you can raise up to $100 over the previous bet) that pretty much plays like no-limit. Maximum buy-in is $200.

KFAN doing "MN Poker Weekly" Monday nights at 9pm... I'm listening to the first show now (it's from last week). Sounds pretty good. 40 minutes until the new episode.

So, I know Canterbury and Running Aces well, but I might be traveling the state a bit for work and other stuff this year. How are the casino rooms in Greater MN? I know PokerAtlas lists a number of rooms, but I am fairly certain that most aren't open in any predictable way.

Does GC-Mille Lacs actually have a room that runs games consistently?

Where does a person who lives in or near St. Paul, MN play poker? Is there any PLO? So hard to tell from casino websites if they are actually good poker venues, or if they are mainly slot machines or horse betting, etc.

Thanks.

Quick reminder: no-limit games are illegal in MN and discussion of home/private/underground/illegal games is not permitted in this forum. Please use the Home Poker Forum for discussion of home games.

Is this post still accurate?

The impression I'm getting is that in the greater Minneapolis area, you can play small stakes texas hold em in Running Aces, or you can play a wider variety of stuff, including up to 50/100 mixed games, at Canterbury.

Any PLO games to speak of? I'm thinking about going there, but man I'd hate to find myself hours away from the nearest mid stakes PLO game!

With some effort people can get a 2-100 Omaha spread limit game that plays a little like PLO (obv by the turn pots get larger than $100) but these haven't run as much lately.

If you really want it post on the Running Aces Poker facebook page (not Running Aces' facebook page, which is separate) and/or follow some of the local pros (Erick Wright, Blake Bohn) and some of their followers and tweet out you're looking for a game.

People do come out of the woodwork.

Also at Canterbury most nights and Running Aces less often they get around the $100 max bet law by holding short tournaments where you get dollar for dollar chips that have no cash value during the tournament but whatever you have in front of you after the 'tournament' ends you cash out for value. these games are usually NLHE. Sometimes PLO or H O. Buy in's range from (rarely $200), $300, 500, 1000, up to $2500. IIRC Rake is $15 hour, usually 3 hours but sometimes two hours at lower buy in levels. Canterbury has one night specified (forget which) where these games run more frequently.

to see what else runs follow the Bravo app, both rooms use it.

I'll be working in the Minneapolis area for the next 1-3 months. Are Canterbury Park and Running Aces still the only poker room options? TIA.
