Does anyone have any idea if MD lottery meetings are open to public like a city council meeting?

"The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission will meet on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Maryland Lottery Headquarters, Montgomery Park Business Center, 1800 Washington Boulevard, Suite 330, Baltimore MD 21230. For additional information, please contact Marie Torosino at 410-230-8790."

Sounds like Marie Torosino would know. Any particular reason you didn't call her for additional information?

The statements made by the honchos behind the new casinos didnt make it seem like they wrre very concerned with the lawsuit. I cant wait for the horshoe to open it will be the spot to play for sure, I live on kent island and frequent every poker room on the east coast, im eager to see how it stacks up. If you frequent caesars ent casinos check your email for a survery revealing pictures and other details of two possible buildings...looks amazing either way.

The Horseshoe is supposed to be pretty fancy. We'll see. Going way back, as a kid, I remember driving past a bowling alley in Dundalk with a big blue horseshoe in front of it - I think Johnny U might have owned the bowling alley. It would be cool to see that come back ... except that doesn't seem to fit with the up-style establishment they are aiming for. Plus, I hate the Colts now - GO RAVENS!!! So yeah, nevermind about that big horseshoe idea.

I actually like CT so I'm not wishing them a quick demise but the big difference for me is that CT is an hour away from where I live/work and ML! is about 30 mins from my office. At an hour CT is too far to be practical for an after work mid week trip. ML! will be close enough that I can play on an otherwise free Tuesday night for a couple hours and still get home at a decent time.

I've noticed that the traffic at CT seems to indicate that a lot of people feel the same. They can easily fill 30+ tables on weekends but weeknights are what 10 or 12? Sunday nights it empties pretty early. In my mind CT is close enough for a day trip on a Friday night or weekend but ML! will be close enough for weeknights and therefor will get me playing a lot more frequently than I can at CT.

Except that 30 minutes will take an hour an a half on 95 or the Parkway, at least for those of us in D.C. . . .

There's no way you could get close enough to the speed of light to dilate 30 mins into 90 mins and still not arrive at MD Live! or even Baltimore from DC during that time frame.

I routinely drive from L Street, N.W. to AC on Friday evenings. Scientific principles aside, if you leave between 4 and 6, between getting out of D.C., the Beltway and then 95, it routinely takes two hours (sometimes more) to get to the tunnel in Baltimore.

might want to try going down k st to the whitehurst freeway, across the bridge to the GW Memorial Parkway to 495. It's an extra few miles, but can often be quicker than spending all that time on Connecticut or 16th.

At 6:30pm on a Tues, ML! is about 30 minutes up the parkway from my Lanham office. Sure it might be 45 on a Friday in the summer but then CT would be 90 mins instead of 60 at that time too.

Key for me in being able (willing) to play on a random Tuesday night is how the room is run and how quickly they can get players seated. It's an area where CT has improved but can clearly still improve further.

That might work if going to CT(I 270), but the trek across the beltway from River Road to I 95 is a killer at evening rush hour.

New Hampshire might be better than Connecticut or 16th. As long as you are hitting traffic inside the beltway you might as well get on the beltway just before I 95.

I do that. It's the quickest way out of the city (as opposed to connectut or NY Ave to BWI Parkway). But 495 is usually a parking lot (and 95 is just barely better)

I've found the best way to get to Del Park or AC on a Friday afternoon is to take Whitehurst, to Cabin John to 270 and then use the intercounty connector to get to either 29 or 95 (the tolls are well worth it). It adds a crap load of miles to the trip, but its quicker, and, at least you're moving the entire time. I assume the same route could be used to get to ML! . . .

Either that, or sometimes, I just pretend I'm going to the gym and take off at 2:00 and hope no one notices I'm gone . . . Can be in AC by 6:00!

Does anyone know what Q7 does to the tax rates?

I think slots were 67% everywhere, but after Q7, rates will be 67% slots / 50% tables and ML gets to have 50% for both.

can anyone show me where I can verify this? I'm trying to remember what I read in the summer.

I searched for this info as well in a clear concise summary and could not find it..Skim Read SB-1 but for a "non Lawyer" very difficult to read and to follow..Sent a reguest to Vote For Seven and didnot hear back...I think slots rate drops to like 54% and table games revenue is at a rate of 20-30% but this is only a guess from the fight to get Q7 passed...

As a matter of fact I didnot even find a clean copy of the bill..The link Vote for seven posted had lines a editting throughout..

With all the attention on MD Live has anybody heard anything about Perryville???

I don't know if Perryville will have poker, but with Hollywood looking to build a poker tournament series it seems likely. Here's a post I made in another thread re possible over-saturation:

Nat'l Harbor to MD Live!: 33 mi / 45 mins
MD Live! to Harrah's Baltimore (planned): 13 mi / 20 min
Harrah's Baltimore (planned) to Hollywood Perryville: 43 mi / 55 min

The Perryville reps have actually been the most helpful in returning my emails. This isn't terribly detailed but I'd assume that they'll put together a poker room around the same time that MD Live! gets theirs up and running:

Thank for reaching out to us. At this time, we are now moving into rules and regulations approvals with the commission so we are unsure of the exact specifics. However, Hollywood Casino as a company is starting its first Hollywood Poker Open. This is a company event in which players from all over the country can participate at events in different locations, with all of it leading up to the championship event in June, held at the M Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. You can find out more specifics at the website www.hollywoodpokeropen.com. I am sure that once we have more specifics on the tables being brought into Perryville, we will also be able to work in events tying to the Hollywood Poker Open.

Well I certainly hope MD Live has poker within a year. That would be great!

However, I live in No Va and I think Chuck is still closer. Hopefully, the games will be more player friendly making the extra miles worth the trip.

Either way, this is a great thing for poker in the mid-atlantic.

Really can't wait for National Harbor!!

Perryville posted the dealer school application today: https://careers-pngaming.icims.com/j...s=5&searchZip=

Includes poker along with blackjack, craps, and roulette on the list of basic info. Tuition is also listed as being free, similar to what MD Live is offering.

They also mention the Hollywood Poker Open on their site, but make no mention of future tournaments to be hosted at the Perryville location.

I'm coming to Laurel this week and wondering where the closest poker rooms are. Looking to maybe play a tournament and/or cash games at least 1 day that I'm out there. Any help is appreciated.

I didn't make it out to play. We left a day later because of the storms in OH so I had limited time. Thanks for all the invites!

Looks like Hollywood Perryville will not make a significant move to draw business away from Delaware Park. This is from their vice president and GM:

Quote:
Hollywood is removing about 340 machines to make room for 20 tables, including eight for poker, Hayles said.
http://www.baltimoresun.com/business...,4117053.story

Not sure why they would even bother with only 8 tables?

I'm gonna guess because it provides some variety for customers, gives them another poker location to put on all their websites (especially for the HPO), and possibly even generates some cash for them via rake.

Have you been to Perryville? It's not exactly NYC or LA with respect to population or population density and probably doesn't need more than eight tables.
