FWIW, I think this is an excellent idea that we should organize via the Maryland Regional Communities thread. If we have a group of people who will bring a specialty game to one of the casinos, we might be able to get a special rake rate or something like that for the game to put it at a particular one of the area casinos.

Anyhow, please do use the Maryland Regional Communities thread for issues that are broader than just MDL. Thanks.

I have some experience on this front. Recommend downloading groupme and starting a discussion thread for whatever game you're trying to organize. Whenever somebody expresses interest, get there contact and add them to the thread. Use thread to organize specific dates/times to play and try to always play at the same time. Just my 2 cents.

This system has worked well for the Limit Holdem player pool.

A few questions about the card rooms in Baltimore, as I'll be in the area in a few weeks for work.

1. Of Maryland Live and Horseshoe Baltimore, which is the nicer of the two?
2. Of Maryland Live and Horseshoe Baltimore, which has the better action/poker games?
3. Any other rooms in Baltimore I should be looking at?

Thanks...

1. I think that HB is aesthetically better, parking is easier, access to the highway is better, and there's more room between tables.

2. MDL has a better variety of games and better action at anything other than the lowest-stakes NLHE (1/3 @ HB; 1/2 @ MDL). See bravopokerlive.com for more details.

3. The next closest casino is Perryville, which barely gets a game most of the time. So stick to MDL or, if you're planning only to play low-stakes NLHE on a night or weekend, HB would be fine too.

So I live in VA 4+ hours from the nearest casino, am married with a full time job and two toddlers--so I never get to play at a casino except a rare trip to Vegas. I've got a convention in Philly in September and driving back I thought I would stop off and play an evening and then a day tournament at one of the Casinos in Baltimore. I guess it's the Horshoe vs Baltimore Live. Any recommendations?

I guess I'm not even familiar at all with those casinos...usually if I was up that way I would go to AC. If you recommend any of the Philly casinos in particular, I'd be interested to hear it.

Parx would be your best bet. Its north of Philly, tho

It really depends on what is important to you, as each has a different set of advantages.

My opinions:
If game variety is important: MDLive, hands down. Check Bravo any evening to see what I mean.
If in-house food options matter: Shoe.
If low-limit donkiness matters: Shoe (up for debate maybe.)
Lighting, Seating comfort/space: Shoe.
Tournament Structure: See what they are offering for the day in question.

What I would do, wanting to experience things myself to form opinions: BOTH. Stop for the evening at the 'Shoe and stay at the hotel next door, then get up the next morning and head down 295 to Live for the tournament; it's right on your way home.

While you may be pleasantly surprised at shoe, MDL will definitely not disappoint. Agree playing both could be a good option.

Hey guys, thanks for the detailed responses. I'm thinking since I'm driving up Friday I'll stop and play a tourney at Horshoe or MDL during the day, since the conference doesn't start till sat am. Then I'll probably play one or more evening tournaments in Philly. I'm staying in the city right by Sugarhouse but I'm reading reviews that it is...decidedly low class. I love to play poker but I can't say I really enjoy playing with *******s. Do you think the ******* quotient (or crime quotient) is significantly higher at Sugar House as opposed to, say, Parx? Or is it a push?

I'm going to be in DC in a few weeks, staying near the Jefferson Memorial. Where would be the best/closest place to play NLHE? Would prefer 2/5 if available. Won't have access to a car, but would be willing to take a reasonable Uber (say $30-40 each way) somewhere if I could get one back to the city.

In a few weeks....MD Live in Hanover, MD. About 45 minutes without traffic....heaven knows how long with.

In a few months....MGM National Harbor without a doubt from you location, when it opens.

Does anyone have any information regarding the new MGM in DC?
Its on schedule to open on December 8th but I'm just not sure whether the poker room will open straight away.

Its going to be great action anyway although I hope it doesn't take too much action away from Maryland Live!

Look for the MGM hype thread.

And the poker room will open on the 8th along with the rest of the casino.

Fort Washington, MD would be your best bet.

Best bet is to rent a room in MGM at National Harbor.
