There's every possible economic level in the area. I'd suggest airbnb to start off and then investigate the area in person.

Elkridge, or the area in Hanover near Elkridge. A bit quieter community than staying too close to the madness of the mall. Price goes up the further west you go toward Ellicott City.

I'd agree that planning for the future you may want to be further south on 95/295.

Columbia nice.

Hwy 100 fast and rarely backed up.

Most appts in the shadow of the mall are marketed as luxury.

It depends on how nice of a neighborhood you want.

You can rent 1 bedroom apartments in Dundalk for around $600. They'll be older buildings, and it's a blue collar neighborhood that's declined some but it's not awful. Getting to the Shoe would be fairly easy, to Live you'd be going thru the tunnel w/ tolls.

Glen Burnie's slightly up market from Dundalk, on the other side of the Harbor.

The areas to avoid for sure are going to be West Baltimore inside the Beltway and immediately around the Shoe.

If you want more upscale, then Canton, Fells Point, Columbia, Elicott (sp?) City mentioned above...

Wikipedia good resource for demographics, etc. Columbia is double Glen Burnie for median family income for example. (Not knocking any suggestion.)

Out of curiosity how are you going to get someone to rent to you?

Money is the usual way.

Seriously though, many landlords will put up with less stable incomes if you put down a bigger deposit. Big management companies might be less flexible so smaller landlords are probably the better bet.

Not to pick on this post in particular, but this is a good example of why outsiders need to experience various areas for themselves. I can easily provide counterarguments to each and every one of the above statements. E.g. there are hundreds of med/dental/pharmacy students that live in walking distance of shoe. I have literally never heard anyone say Canton is upscale (which is very different than saying "people pay good money to live there" imo).

+1 to this. Using priceline express deals you can get extended stay america in Columbia 10 minutes from the casino between 45 and 50 per night. Right now i see that deal at 48.

Decent place with full kitchen etc.

Good luck

high hand promos (even with splash pot) are a hit.
$25k over 10hrs to random winners is also a hit.
flopped quads or better promo was a bomb.

What other poker promos would be as popular as high hand?

Tournament seat drawings probably would be popular, but not as popular as high hands.

It may not be for everyone but there is a KOA campground fairly close to both venues
Last time I was there they also had a couple small cabins for the people without RV/MH's.

If living in Overlea/Fullerton makes me an outsider, so be it. Every neighborhood has its good and bad. You certainly wouldn't want to live along Rt. 40 in W. Baltimore, but otoh Dickieville is gorgeous.

And Canton is definitely upscale these days. You should go thru it sometime. It's been gentrified by Johns Hopkins

So for November, Live is doing high hands almost every day and definitely every night, including 2k/hour on Mon and Tue (11a-2a) and even high hands on Friday until 5pm.

The Shoe? Football splash pots. 2 or 3 days, total.

I heard it said that upper upper management at the Shoe decided the room would do no promotions. How moronic, if true.

I have 2k left to grind at the Shoe for Diamond, but if I go it's going to be dead. :/

5:00pm on Tuesday, Nov 3: ML has 41 tables (all but 3 are jackpot eligible), Horseshoe has 8. Yesterday at this time, the numbers were similar (ML > 40, Horseshoe < 10).

Obviously, if one place offers promotions and the other one doesn't, the one with the promotions will do better. I wonder if Horseshoe will change their mind? There is no rule that says once they decide on the very limited November promotions, they can't change them by adding some later. They could call them Thanksgiving promotions, or something.

Damage done. Once people know the November promotions are LIVE YAY and SHOE BOO, they won't look again until December.

I disagree. If, in the small chance that Horseshoe implements high hands for the last two weeks or whatever (I would not bet on this by the way), people will know about it. Whether it'll be enough to change habits, that's another story.

The business decision to have no promos for Nov is crazy.

If the upper upper was GM Barnhill it looks like he will be Cincies problem now.
According to an article in the Sun he will be leaving in January.

Some people find out, sure, but most won't, IMO. That said, we can disagree on who will find out. We totally agree on how stupid the decision was.

Black Friday tournaments:

Live : $200 - 15k chips, $5,000 GTD
Shoe: $150 - 10k chips, $20,000 GTD

Which one would you pick?

Live. They're sure to hit way more than the guarantee. They have a better structure, and if you happen to bust early, more tables = less of a wait for a cash game on what will surely be a busy day.
