As you've never been to Macao , those are details you'll find out when you arrive.

Wynn Cotai has a poker room with like 5 or 6 tables IIRC. I was there twice beginning of the month and only 1 or 2 25/50 were going, wait was short. Games were soso, not the most terrible games ever but not exactly great either. Mind you I arrived after midnight both times no idea how the action is earlier. Venetian had more games and more fishy but I only played one short session there due to LOL rake. CoD had a lot of cash games early on due to a tournament series and long waits but dried out rapidly the later it got. Played there one night and I think might have been the only cash game left at 4 am.
I was there only 2.5 days and didn't get to check out the "mainland" side, would appreciate an update on that too.

Wynn banning high stakes regular for opening 23s early position and they think its cheating and whats going on with venetian banning that couple from being at the same table as they play to agressively. There is no way they cheat anyway i have played with them a lot they are not even that crasy most agressive and they changed the reasoning from cheating to being too agressive because local regulars complained that they win too much, so stupid i like someone not folding all the time. That is comedy as they actually keep the games running and now only one of them can play the higher stakes. Never seen anything like that in all my poker career. Who is the next winner who gets banned for idiot complaints, locals who pay the staff need to make the money somehow?

Confirmed there is no more poker room at Lisboa. Closed right after the two APT events held there.

Galaxy does have a poker area on their main floor closer to Phase 2. 3-4 tables running 25/50, 50/100.

Hey all,

I'm currently planning a trip to Macau for PLO. I kind of want to ask for some up to date info as all my friends in Macau seem to be either vanished or broke financially.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Only available PLO is at WYNN 5% up to 200$ rake, only 50/100 stake and 1 very slow table as everybody takes forever to decide what to do. Very soft but still...

Never more than 1 table and no other place that runs PLO.

Hi! I will be in Macau from the 17-18 of June till the beginning of july. I was wondering if it was possible to exchange Stars US dollars for HKD dollars irl. Basically transfering stars US dollars for HKD in person. Is this a doable thing, is it risky, has it been done in the past?

Looking on making a trip here soon (maybe june) and would like a few details if anybody could provide some insight that would be amazing!

1. Money - How does it work? Do I bring USD/GBP? Can I trade it at spot? Perfect scenario would be I give somebody UK bank for HKD and then trade back when I leave but not sure how achievable this is? Not sure how ideal stars would be given the amounts involved (I would have to depo a lot on stars etc and then also transfer large amounts which I've heard stars dont like?)

2. Spoken with a few people and they recommend I try and find a place in 'One Central' - however I have no idea who to go about doing this! Airbnb? Suggestions ?

3. Likely action in June - how will WSOP affect the action at 300/600?

Everybody I've spoken to has just said best thing to do is chat with people who live there, but I don't know anybody who lives there!

All input appreciated!

Money wise, I'd suggest you have the HKD prepped before heading to Macau, the exchange rates won't be that great and even old, worn out bills won't be accepted. Best option is in HongKong as there are many places to exchange at an OK vig.

If you have Stars$, I can give you HKD in person. Even Bitcoin is OK, if you wanna do a BTC for HKD exchange.

Your perfect scenario of having someone to trade with and trade back at the end of the trip is probably drawing slim. Not too many people would be willing to provide this service to a stranger with nothing in return.

One Central and Ascott are fairly standard places for players to stay if they were to play mainly at Wynn. Most convenient for sure unless you're looking to play in Taipa.

Summer time is more quiet in Macau, 300/600 games run daily and obv much higher whenever a vip shows up.

1. Go to Bank of China (or any other bank if you can't find one) in HK with cash, normally low vig. Never exchange at a casino unless you like to be ripped off. You can take unlimited cash into HK and from HK to Macau, might need to declare in UK though.
2. Just google where the Wynn is (the one near Nam Van lake) and find a place not too far (although taxis are relatively cheap)
3. WSOP probably has almost zero effect but as was mentioned, summer is slow season

APT Macau June 14-22, but it's not expected to be big at all because it's being run at a casino without a regular poker room(Babylon, cash games never gets up there anyway)

No app for live games btw.

There's also the ACOP series
http://www.pokerstarsmacau.com/
mostly small stakes though. Yes, no website/app that I am aware of, also it is just a couple of casinos, mostly the Wynn.

Rule of thumb is usually you see more cash games going where tournaments are being held except for Wynn Macau which is super stable and always has games running. It is the go-to spot for cash games.

You just missed Poker King Club's tournament last month which was very successful:
APT Macau - 6/14-22 (Babylon)
http://www.theasianpokertour.com/apt...-2017#schedule
PS ACOP Platinum 19 - 6/23-7/2 (CoD) http://www.pokerstarsmacau.com/tourn...num/2017/june/
MBP Summer Showdown - 7/27 - 8/3 (Babylon)
http://mbp.com/en/tournament/2017-mbp-summer-showdown

Cash Game Rooms during Non-Tournaments (w/ activity):
Wynn Macau
Wynn Palace
Venetian (Poker King Club)
CoD (Pokerstars)
Galaxy

For all the super low bankrollers :

What the cheapest accomodation one can find in Macau (quality not an issue)?

What are the lowest stakes running regularly?

Thanks!

Lowest stakes are 25/50 HKD, but the rake will eat you alive there, hotels can be had from around 50ish dollars (I've never stayed in one of these, but they are supposed to be real sh*tholes), maybe you can go lower with AirBNB and the like. But there's not really any reason to go to Macau with little/no money, everything is expensive there. My advice for your budget is to find a cheap way of transport to Manila or Phnom Penh.

Is it really a 5% rake up to $200 at 25/50 nlh in all the casinos?

Is the rake better in higher games?

Larry

Hello Larry,

The DICJ (government regulatory body) dictates 3-5% rake on all Texas Hold'em Games per hand but with maximum rake only allowed to be equal to 5x the Big Blind. So to answer your question, Yes, it really is up to a 5% rake, but it could go up to $250 in 25/50. Due to overhead costs I do not know any operator that would charge lower than the 5% maximum. Higher games do not have any effect on this %.

http://www.dicj.gov.mo/web/cn/rules/...ldemPoker.html --> link to the rules but only in Chinese/Portugese Section 16.
