The one notable difference between Hollywood Park vs Commerce or Bike is that it is much farther to the freeway. If you're concerned about follow-homes, that would increase the concern. They did however fix the parking lot situation with the rebuild- self-parking has become much safer with the garage.

Could anyone here tell me what the rake is at the Bike for live cash games. I'm going to go play one of the WPT Legends of Poker tournaments there and was going to play some 1/3 nlhm cash games on the side. I've heard that the rake at Commerce is $7, which seems pretty high to me, and was hoping it was a bit lower at the Bike. Thanks

1/3 at Bike is $6

The rake @ the Bike, and basically everywhere in LA is $5 + $1 if there's a river as well as $1 for the BBJP, so $6-7. If there's no flop, there's a $1 drop, even when chopping.

In case people are looking for a geographic perspective on LA poker, I've made a handy map:

Whatsup guys. I'm planning on taking a semester off of school to grind 5-10 and take a shot in the 'higher variance' (not career) sense of the word next spring. Have a roll a bit above 30k from playing 2-5 locally for a few years. Wondering how the LA 5-10 NL games are from December to March. Don't post much and mostly just read, so let me know if this is the wrong section to ask this question, though the title of the thread sure is promising.

On another note, if anyone needs a roommate...

LAPC is in January at Commerce so that's a good time for 5/10NL, but really you're fine year-round.

You think 5-10 games during that time of year will be far better than Vegas?

What are some of the better low stakes (1/2 and 1/3) games in LA? (Considering things like rake, number of max/min BN buy ins, etc)

I've played the 40NL but with the $4 rake per hand and the 20BB, there's not room to play poker.

The Bike spreads 2/3 with a $300 max buyin. Might be the only 100bb game below 5/5 among the major rooms.

Yup. However, the drop in that game is the same as 5/5. Last time I tried to guesstimate the hourly charge, it came out to ~$20/hr.

30 hands/hr (per Bike dealer). Chopped pots drop $1. Flop & turn pays $5+$1jackpot with $1 extra on river if there is one.

Assuming 4 chopped pots/hr, 16 without river and 10 with...

(4/30)($1)+(16/30)($6)+(10/30)($7) = $5.67 avg drop. House takes $170 each hour. Between 9 players that's $18.89/hr.

I think bottom line is if you want a game approaching beatability in LA it will be at least a $5bb game.

Actually LAPC is the worst time of the year for Commerce 5/10. You get a lot of pros and nits playing. Jan-March I'd definitely rather be in Vegas or just on vacation. Don't limit yourself to just Commerce. The place sucks.

30k is not enough for 5/10 btw. Especially in LA where the only real 5/10 game is at Commerce. The other locations all often play huge via straddling.

Coming out to LA on Saturday for about 5 days. First time ever visiting california in general. I'm staying in Venice. I'll be looking to play a good amount of poker since I'm rolling solo.

I'm looking to play some NL games with around a 300-500 buy in. Our 1/2 and 2/5 games here in Cincinnati are 100bb cap games so will be looking for something similar to that in LA.

What casino's are closest to me and would have those games? Also do any of these places offer free food and drinks? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Live in that area. Can probably be at Hollywood park in 15-20 minutess. They have a $40-$100 1/2 game, $100-$300 3/5 game, and a $300-$500 5/5 game. Most casinos in the area comp food at the 5/5 and up. You always will pay for drinks. I hope this helps.

3/5 and 5/5 it is. Do they get many of those games going there? Thanks

Defo Hollywood Park from Venice. GL.
I'm coming back at the end of the month. Was out there in Central for a month in March. Average time was 45 minutes in an Uber pool(25 in an Uber X bit more €)during off peak traffic times to commerce. Loved LA

Played at the Bike today, haven't been in years. The renovation is nice but I was taken back by the lack of oversight by the floors and dealers. Players were repeatedly speaking Spanish, soft playing each other, telling other people in the hand what they think they had/what they did actually have with others behind who haven't acted yet. It was rediculous. Is this that common at the Bike/in LA?

There are usually at least 6 3/5 tables going at night. 5/5 is usually 2/3. Feel like the 5/5 game has dried up a bit in the past 4 months.
