I don't have much 5/T experience, but I hear Players Club in Ventura has the softest 5/T.

Right now with the tourney going, The Bike has been getting some sweet 5/5 games going. (last night it was like back in 2004. People were shoving 200bb stacks with mid-pair or TP ok kicker. The Bike caps theirs at $1k as does the Hustler. The Hustler is pretty action IMO. Hawaiian Gardens 5/5 is nice. You can buy up to $600. There's a few good players and a good amount of lagtards. Hollywood Park and Commerce cap their game at $500. I have the least experience with these two, but Commerce seems pretty nitty with a few spewers coming in and out of the games. Oddly enough, even though the commerce has a 100bb cap, I've found it the easiest to get bluffs through... though that could be b/c I have a nitastic image b/c it's a capped game and I'm playing super ABC tight for the most part.

LA is a big city. Do you mean how far from the city limits or from a specific part of the city? I'm not being a dick. Depending on where you are in Los Angeles and the time of day, the answer can vary from 15-20 minutes to 90-100 minutes or more.

Distance in miles is pretty much meaningless. For example, my office is 1.5 miles from I-405. During rush hour it can take over 20 minutes to get there (and make me want to shoot myself). Outside of rush hour, 4-5 minutes depending on whether I hit the stop lights.

Downtown LA area is what I meant.

Rush hour? Up to 90 minutes. No traffic I think its like 35.

On a related note, I'm thinking about doing a lot of gardening in the near future and wondering if anyone has a room open in Huntington Beach, San Pedro, or Long Beach. PM me if so, have plenty of references both roommates and poker players.

22 minutes from the middle of downtown according to current traffic. 1:15 at peak rush hour according Waze planned drive estimate.

Call the casino. Gardens, Hustler, and Hollywood Park aren't on anything.

The gardens have an app now. You can get it on Google Play and Apple Store. Search for the Gardens Casino. They have poker info on it and you are supposed to be able to put your name on the list automatically but it did not work for me a couple of weeks ago, might be a glitch.

What's your definition of "not that many"? There are usually at least 3 games going on week nights minimum. Weekends up to 5-6.

I don't have any experience at commerce. A few sessions at the Bike, but the 5/5 game at Hollywood Park plays pretty small. Hawaiian Gardens even though its a $600 game plays way higher then Hollywood Park's 5/5. Hustler plays deep as well being a 1K buy in.

The best game however when it runs is the 2/5 game at Lucky Lady. Trust me

Of the larger California rooms, which is the cleanest? I mean, not dirty. I hear most are disgusting and I'm a bit shy.

Hollywood Park still has the new car smell, which I doubt will last. Bike renovated too but I haven't seen the new poker area yet. Otherwise, I would say Hustler.

agree above.
Spacing between tables seems to be the main issue, then staff competence.

Cleanliness......in order.

Hustler. Has always been clean, waitstaff rather quick to clean up meals, tables, etc.

Hollywood Park (moves up in ranking) brand new casino has a lot of room between most tables, is open, airy, bright, and clean. Lots of staffing, porters, waitstaff, floors.

Hawaiian Gardens. newly renovated, lots of space,

The Bike. newly renovated, although recent staffing decisions got rid of a lot of their "porters" that used to bring drinks and clean up. Lack of spacing between tables, and less staff to clean up are big issues that linger. Lots of other staff look at food carts and tables, dishes on the floor and general messes and must think..."I need to get someone else to clean that **** up"...instead of taking any initiative and at least moving the **** out of the way. The place can be pretty unclean mid-afternoon until late night.

Commerce- the big main room, lower limit games can be gross. Way too tight between a lot of tables. Let me quote my wife, an occasional low limit player..."We don't ever have to come back here"

No Report- Normandie Club,, now called...Lucky Lady

I find it really interesting how any stake below 5/5 has ridiculously short stacked buy ins here. Doesn't seem like there's any good 2/5 or 3/5 action in LA. Should I go for some 5/5 instead when I'm here? What's a standard open size? Does it play more like 2/5 or 5/10?

Low BI in LA will always continue, and the rooms/locals like it.
2 reasons:
1. They don't go broke as fast, and can knit a lot of socks with a $40 stack
2. You don't see much "tag team" stuff at these very low BI's.

More than likely table-dependent, like anywhere. Type of players at table, time of day, day of the week, length of time the table's been open, etc. One table might play like a 2/5, another might play like a 5/10. You'd have to observe the tables and take your pick. I believe the Bike has a 2/3 100bb buy-in game if you want a lower, reasonable buy-in game.

I've never seen a 5/5 game that plays appreciably different than any other x/5 game. The buyin will tilt the game play one way or the other, not the size of the small blind.

don't go to Hawaiin Gardens, people have gotten robbed and shot there. Commerce is very dirty with rude people. Stick with Hustler, hollywood park or The Bike.

People used to always warn about the Hollywood Park (and the neighborhood there does seem to be the worst of the major casinos). But I have never felt unsafe at any of the casinos and don't think they are really much different in terms of safety.
