How many hours/days do you need to get into the following cash races: empire, hippodrome and vic and do they ever run the cash race on the same weekend?

I can't speak for The Vic but I qualified for The Hippo & Empire cash-races for June and to make sure to qualify I did 100 hours at The Hippo and 26 days at The Empire. You might get away with 24 days for the July one and I think you can do 95 hours at The Hippo. Just keep checking when you go in.

It's quite heavy-going, especially if you're having a losing month, and I don't really like them to be honest, but if you are going to go for it then doing both is not a bad option cos you'll often need a change of scene of an evening anyway - and "free" £800 (effective) in entries to a couple of tournies aint bad.

I overheard a couple of regs say that The Hippo one is tougher cos the tables aren't as soft and it's based on hours played rather than visits but you can definitely find yourself on unbelievably crazy-soft tables at The Hippo sometimes.

Finally, be aware that The Hippo cash-race itself is a turbo-structure with 15 minute levels and no wriggle-room to play proper poker. Some regs will still tank and Hollywood as if it's the TV tables at the World Series and you might get 8 hands per level if you're lucky but you'll be pretty much on push or fold mode after 2 hours. The Empire one is a more long and drawn out affair.

P.S. The Hippo cash-race is/was held on Wednesday evening at 7PM. None of the cash-races clash.

Take back what I said about hours played for The Hippo cash-race. It seems a lot easier this month judging by hours played by the bottom placed qualifier so far. i.e. just 32 hours played at the half-way stage. Perhaps it's looking more like 70-80 hours played this month might get you in.

Anyone know if the player connected with the empire in the WSOP main is still in? Heard a few stories over the weekend, think he has (or had) a lot of chips and might still be in. Could possibly be two players.

As I am writing there are 27 players remaining in main event
There are 3 English players still in (12th, 16th and 23rd )
The guy in 12th place is from London......Matthew Moss, currently has 14.3m chips, leader has 24m

Yeah cheers, I know there were some people connected to the empire in some way deep in the main from conversations there over the weekend. Possibly a guy that won a package to play from there or maybe a dealers bf or something, cant quite remember. Not sure if they are still in or not. Either way gl all brits left.

Lat night at the Empire 1 player often blind pre-flop for £30/£50 etc, good fun, good for the game.

Saw 1 old nit call for a ruling because this guy trapped him with an 'out-of-turn' false tell that he was about to check (a hand wave, looked nothing like an action), but he made us all wait for the floor to come. Floor dismissed it quickly, I guess he does this often.

And another nit asked if there was a maximum allowed tip because this guy was tipping too much!

How do these people get into gambling as a hobby??

Dealer procedure at the Empire appeared to be slipping this weekend. A few two-handed cuts after the shuffle. One long conversation about Clash of Clans between two players and the dealer while we waited for the next hand to start. One situation in which a player, having shown one card, was almost but not yet showing down, and two players and the dealer were suggesting the type of hands he'd need to have to beat those already shown. Blank faces when I said OPTAH.

Each feels too small and nitty to mention to the floor at the time, but they add up.

In that situation I'd probably have a quiet word with whoever is running the floor rather than make a big deal at the table. All of the supervisors are good and professional so they'd treat it with discretion.

Does 5/10 and 10/20nl run regularly anywhere?

I'm not sure why anyone who plays in those games would answer that question

I was just wondering if anyone here has any experience with the poker in coventry, UK specifically Genting casino, what cash games typically run there and how is the standard of play? I've grinded up a roll playing 5NL and more recently 10NL on stars and am interested in trying my hand at live poker and was just curious as to whether I would have an edge in the games that run there?

I went Saturday and Sunday, played £220 25/50 no good! Did better Sunday for Goliath £120 DayB but burnt a good stack. Might try last day 1 Friday.

Cash games all the way to 2/5 sometime 5/10 runs.

I'd suggest you play 1/1, always 4 games. Soft as ****! I played 11 hours and won £700 in those games to get me out the MTT hole for the weekend. GL if you make the journey!

Anyone seen/heard of any non-NLHE/PLO games running last couple of weeks? Since the 6-card PLO hi/lo & 5 card Draw games that ran like 6 weeks ago at the Hippo, I haven't seen anything else. Were these games just a one-time flash in the pan?

Haven't heard of any. It was me and a PLO reg playing 5 card triple draw, at one point we had a good game with 2-3 recs at the table. Usually when we notice each other in Hippo I end up asking the floor to advertise for a 5 card triple draw game, but there hasn't been much interest and we don't really want to play HU.

I started the chinese pineapple yesterday, if that counts.

If yu want to play other variants your best bet is just going to hippo and asking the supervisors to start a list and advertise it to the people in the cardroom
