5% capped at £10 sounds high but is the rake at all grosvenors/ex-galas, the Empire and the Hippodrome. Not sure about Aspers, don't really play there.

In terms of softness I would say the Empire and the Hippo are marginally softer than the Vic. If you were beating 50nl fr over a decent sample size you will undoubtedly crush these games if you adjust properly. As I said you have to play very differently live to online so why don't you get experience first, live poker in London is the same as everywhere else ime.

Where are you from?

1. I am staying near Hyde Park, would the Vic be the most convenient place for me to play 1/1?

the Vic for sure is the nearest 1/1, but its well worth taking a visit the the Hippodrome as its in a key tourist area, and is a lovely venue, and the empire is next door, but the games are 1/2+

2. What is the min/ max buy in for 1/1?

at the vic its £40min £200max iirc

3. How much/ how often should I be tipping the dealers to not look weird? I am used to tipping after winning every post-flop hand.

personally, i tip rarely in most live poker games and when i do its only in big pots, in the 1/1 you are paying 10% @ £5 + £1 for every pot over £20 towards there loyalty cash race, so tip as you feel comftable but winning a £50 pot and them taking £6 they can go spin if they expect a tip!

4. Are drinks comped in London casinos? If they are, can I take a chip off the table to tip like in the US? Also do they stop serving booze at a certain time?

soft drinks and tea/coffee are free at the empire and hippodrome, the vic charge for all drinks and food, but its fine to pay for small items like food and drinks with chips

5. Do casinos in London have smoking sections indoors or will I have to go outside to smoke?

most have a dedicated smoking terrace, to comply with UK laws on smoking, if you go to the hippodrome, go to there smoking terrace on the 3rd floor and you will be surprised, its basically inside with some open roof areas, it has slots and table games where you can smoke

Thank you guys for any help you can provide, I look forward to visiting your city.
hope the above helps

as for live poker, there might be the odd rule that is different, like the string bet rule, be careful of that its not like vegas where you can cut chips out etc, although i think the Vic has changed its rules, plus exposing your hand heads up isn't allowed, i watched an American guy do it a few times when facing a big river bet with the 2nd/3rd nuts and his hand was instantly killed as he was facing a bet

just spend an hour watching the table, im sure your pick up and odd rules

enjoy and good luck

Haha i don't remember the session in question!

I think the point is that you will get a lot more comments and looks, especially from dealers, in the us than the uk.

In a word, yes. But honestly it's very quick and easy to get to Leicester Square so it's pretty convenient too, plus there's more options. You can try the Hippo and the Empire for 1/2 games or the Golden Nugget or Grosvenor Leicester Square for 1/1 games.

Depends on the casino. From what I remember the Vic is £40 min/ £200 max.

Don't feel compelled to tip, no one will judge you. Tip what you think is fair. I usually tip £1 or £2 after winning decent sized post flop pots.

People have covered this quite well already, read above.

Hippodrome's smoking area is amazing, and I say this as a non-smoker. It's basically the same as inside with a little gap in the roof. The Vic has a little shelter by the poker room. The Empire has a balcony that's a little hard to find and closed a lot of the time. Grosvenor Leicester square has a balcony. Golden Nugget has nothing as far as I know.

Slight subject change.

I finally got around to playing the £100 Sunday tourney @ the hippo last week and I was really impressed ( well as impressed as u can be by a weekly comp) 20k stack 30 min levels and great structure for a weekly comp Inc 100-200 repeat and I can't remember any huge jumps plus they have a 2k gtd as long as there's 10 runners, last week there was only 16 and this week only 13 I spoke to the dealer and he said there's an overlay quite often, it's quite soft aswell last week it was pretty much nits and fish on my table and nothing In between.

Before it started I overhead 1 guy saying he'd just got a great new book by dolly something.... Turned out to be super system 2 lol

Anyone know the rake in the 5/10 10-25 25/50nl games at the palm beach casino?
Going to be in scotland in the fall for a few months and am looking for 5/10+ live nl games with somewhat reasonable rake. Also, are all three of these games uncapped/any idea typical stack depths across these 3 games.
Thanks in advance for the info

This comp is actually too good for a one day structure

I played the first one they ran with about 35 runners, me and my friend chopped it heads up, but it was a serious grind, granted thats what you want ie good structure and clock etc but on a sunday starting at 1pm i want to be able to catch the last train home, but even with 35 runners it was on til gone 1am!

seems there Classic and UKIPT events are the only ones that get runners, and as far as i know the structure/clock isnt much better than there Sunday event even at 2.5x the buyin/rake

also, does anyone else hate there tournament chips...so similar in colour!!! who came up with those"

Can anyone recommend anywhere decent to stay in London thats in the £50 sort of range a night and reasonably nice?
I stayed in a place called the County Hotel for £50 a night last time I went to London which is in the centre and it was awful and like a prison.
Also stayed in a travelodge down at Stratford which is about £75-£80 a night which is a bit expensive.

not many places in your budget that will be nice, not in London anyway, try the suburbs, but then you have added travel costs

what dates you thinking?

London is expensive. £50 a night isn't going to get you anything really. Maybe air bnb will work? Otherwise, you're going to have to try lastminute or a hostel. If you're staying for a month+ then you can likely rent.

Not happening tbh. Spend more or go somewhere nasty, that's your only real choices.

You'll be lucky to get a travelodge for that price, but they're nice enough, I stayed at the one at City Airport for a few nights.
If you really only want to spend £50 go for easyhotel, you really do get what you pay for (small room, no window etc but good enough just for somewhere to sleep) and locations are really good.

Airbnb you can get a nice room if you're lucky, but probably not central for that price.

Hotels you'll pretty much only get sh*tholes.

Probably looking at £100pn minimum to get what I'd describe as a nice room in London.

I personally like staying at the Cumberland at Marble Arch (Just off Oxford Street), nice comfortable and well presented hotel and is a great location to get to most things you want to see in Central London.

Pretty sure it doesn't because the Holdem one didn't and it's a mini ukipt event.

I wanna know if it's gonna be 9 handed or not. As I imagine there'll be a lot less runners, they should make it 6max

I also need some help with accommodation.
I am planning to come to London in the next weeks for poker only, I will be traveling alone and want to stay somewhere as cheap as possible to keep the costs low. Any recommendation or maybe somebody even has a room to rent?
