Hi guys,

I used to play online for a living but now have a real job in London. I've got a month off in August because I was going to go on holiday to the US with the GF but broke up so have a return flight to Vegas and little else. If you guys were me, would you go to Vegas and grind for a 2-4 weeks or would you stay in London and grind? My impression is that the games in London are softer than the games in Vegas but Vegas has 2/5 and 5/10 running more or less around the clock whereas that only happens in London on an evening/weekend.

Just interested in some opinions/comparisons that aren't "go to Vegas and stay out of my games!" And yes, women are the rake LDO.

Definitely go to Vegas! You already have the tickets booked, you don't have to spend the whole time playing poker while you're there either. Plenty to see, do and eat in sin city

Hey this has probably been asked before but for people who play live in London how do 1/1 and 1/2 play skill wise compared with PokerStars Online stakes (NL)? I know the games play slightly different just trying to get a rough idea

1/2 easier to beat than PokerStars 10NL in my opinion. Definitely a very different game though - far more passive, far more multiway pots.

Easier to beat than 10NL in abstract, possibly unbeatable after the rake anyway.

eh, Stars 10NL takes 4.5% rake capped at 15BB, Hippodrome 1/2NL takes 5% capped at 5BB

more shortstackers live, obv, but it's a long way from unbeatable

Im guessing 1/1 is basically not beatable as all the games I seen are 10%, Also would I be at much of a disadvantaged playing at 100bb rather than 200bb that most game allow, I am far more comfortable playing 100bb deep

This is well-trodden ground ITT but many of the 1/2 games when I was last playing (a year or so ago) seemed to be unbeatable as they were getting on the tougher side and had a larger number of shortstacakers than ever before.

To answer your actual question, yes its a disadvantage.

To be more specific, the idea of being 100BB deep is somewhat arbitrary in £1/£2 because of straddles, people raising 4-6x preflop etc. In essence, buying in for £100 the game will play much shorter than you are probably used to.

I don't play £1/£1 very much, but I do think based on the rake structure in London and the types of stacks you typically see it would be very difficult to beat for a decent clip.

Sweet thanks mate, I have been subbed to your PGC thread for ages but just lurk there haha and yeah that is kind of what I thought. What days/times are generally best for £1/£2? Is most full ring or do casinos run 6max?

No comment ; ) and nope only 6max unfortunately. Best bet is to play the smaller card-rooms as they often play 3-4 handed into the early hours of the morning until the game breaks.

Not sure if you meant what you wrote, but at the Vic at least £1/£2 is all full ring, and there is no 6-max.

Was thinking the first and the second sentence contradicted each other haha, any casions people know of that run 6max I find full ring so boring

I'm sure they would if they could spare the dealer and you made it worth their while.

About 50% of the live player base ask the floor to break the table if it ever gets below 9 players.

Sorry, I meant its all full-ring and theres no 6-max.

To clarify, your best bet is to play at smaller cardrooms during the early hours. These often have 1-2 games max, and tend to wittle down to 4-6 players and will even play HU.

And +1 to DDD above.

Me too me too me too. How about 8 Game? Don't mind if you want to drop PLO/NLHE if that's what you're trying to avoid.

If you need an extra player, send me a PM as I'm not sure I can as a non poster
