Hi guys, I have to say I believe its got to the point now in london that theres no advantage to play over grinding online. Empire and Hippo have become alot more nitted and reg infested, profitable tables are few and far between now.

By all means is you play for fun or to mix it up form online sure have a pla every now and then, but for those wanting to grind it on a regualar basis its now becoming a wasted effort.

Sad to see but I guess the gravy train had to come to an end at some point.

Yes my advice to all grinders and good regs is to just stay at home, maybe take up golf or chess or something.

Playing live will always be more profitable to grinding online but I agree it's no gravy train anymore as more and more "unknowns" just seem to have more awareness these days. The question is whether there are enough bad players to make visits worthwhile and for it not to be a "wasted effort" as you put it. As ever, this puts table selection as one of the most important strategies.

If you can be bothered to change table 3 or 4 times or trudge between The Empire and The Hippo to search for a better game then you may give yourself that edge - but overall you're right, opportunities to exploit weaker opponents are definitely harder to come by these days.

Hi, can anyone clarify how many times in a calendar month do you need to play to gain entry to the monthly freeroll.

Also is there a minimum amount of time in each session you need to play or could someone in fact turn up for 5 minutes each day to play. Seems an odd incentive if that's the case.

iirc it's like 40 minutes that you need to play each day. Still an odd incentive.

Exactly for example it cost me £30-35 on transport to even get to the casino and back. So I'm down from the off, very hard these days for anyone to make a consistant win rate in London casinos.

There is more value on certain online sites, the ratio regs to fish will be simular but you get through way more hands so the odds of going to tango with the fish is alot higher.

am headed to London next week for bidness and am looking to play some cards Mon to Thurs. I generally get my work out the way by 3pm and then play 4-5 hour sessions at the various rooms. I play 2/5 at home, but generally play 1/2 and 1/3 when travelling

I've always found the Empire to be soft and very easy to get a seat but interested in whether there's been any changes over the past year that would make the Hippo or Vic (or another room I don't know about) be a better option?

thanks for any advice. (I'm staying in Victoria, so Leicester Sq a few mins easier to get to than Edgeware Rd)

I spent a week last week in London on business and basically played 1/2 Mon to Fri from mid/late afternoon into the early evening.

I played at Empire every day and thought the games were really bad. Lots of nitty regs and reg/pro types, plenty of rocks and a few short stackers on each table. I ran bad so the whole week was a bit of an energy suck, but despite table changing a lot, I think I had one 'good' game of about 12 tables I sat at. Some of the regs also commented on how bad the games have been for a few weeks, but I was really surprised, as in previous years I've found Empire to be full of bad recs and better games

I also dropped in on Friday lunchtime to play at the Vic but was amazed to find only 1 1/2 table playing. Table was full, I waited an hour, but the list hadn't grown, so got the tube across to Leicester Square. Couldn't believe such an established room would only have 1 game running on a Friday lunchtime

lol sample size, but is poker dying in London?

Played in empire fri night and it wasn't great I agree but let's see what it's like in September. Broke up with my girlfriend so now is the perfect chance to actually qualify for the monthly tournament for once.

I fail to believe the games can be bad enough to not be worth playing. A few weeks ago I seem to remember there was a real buzz and even a regular 5/10 game in the empire. Peaks and troughs.

Basically the only two rooms worth playing in are Broadway and Star City. Sometimes games are deep and lively, sometimes they are shallow and nitty. Really does seem to be no consistency whatsoever at the moment. Standard of play comparative to most places is pretty good annoyingly. Any more questions, just ask, I am a local reg.
