Yes. I asked about it yesterday night, and a dealer told me it is about 20 to 50 players maximum, on exceptional days. So bad news for me as i am a bounty hunter, for a part. I might have to take that one away and that might leave me with a very limited schedule....
I will check it tonight (apparent dynamic of the table, players etc...) while at the Victoria.

We have less than 5 days to clock some serious numbers to get the right response -- the first response is as good as their final say on the matter -- If you would be soo kind as to fill out this petition and tweet RE the absurdity. That would be mighty spliffing.

I agree with you and tweeted it, but i am more worried about the 15% taxe. Isn't it worst ? I sincerely ask as i may not get all the implied stuff of this act.
I fear it will become over-raked like in France.

Vat is 20% by the way so no, it's not the "worst".

Hey guys,

Live in Edinburgh and never played in London so apologies for the noob question but GF living down there at the moment so likely to be spending a bit of time there over the next couple of months. Just wondering, do cash games run 24/7 or only at night? Where would be the best place to play either 1/1 or 1/2. Had a quick look on google and the Vic seems to say games go 24/7 but wondered how accurate this was?

On an unrelated note anybody know of any decently cheap and central hotels for during the UKIPT?

Cheers

Vic runs 1/1 pretty much 24/7, ive never not got a game. Thinks aspers might be pretty consistent as well.

The daytime 1/1 usually unbeatable.

If you swoop in for an early morning session and catch the dregs from the night before it's ok. It isn't fun, but it's definitely beatable whenever.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Unbeatable due to the rake or in that the game's a nit fest? Or both?

I'd be coming down earlyish after I finish work on a Friday and just looking to kill a couple of hours until ~5pm at lowish stakes while I wait for the gf to finish her placement.

Generally play 50/1 up here and do pretty well but I'm just an amateur so not super fussed about finding the softest table for an all day grind or anything. Wouldn't mind playing a bit higher like 1/2 if the game was way better or more fun though.

I guess the perception is that it's very nitty, which is true. Doesn't make it unbeatable though. Hippo 1/2 is a good game when I've been there but not a huge sample size.

Yeah the rake of 10% cap 5 +1quid loyalty means that nitty passive 1/1 games r unbeatable.

Might just play 1/2 at the Hippodrome then instead, do games run there all the time as well?

Not sure they're 24/7 but they seem to run well

Yes the games run pretty much 24/7. Early mornings up until mid-afternoon, there may only be 1 or 2 tables and sometimes a little nitty, but the rest of the time probably the best value in the nicest venue in London.

NB Empire can be pretty good value too (same player pool as it is only a 100m or so away), but extra rake for the bad beat jackpot. The poker room is a little cramped/weathered in comparison.

I'm going to make the step to playing 1/2 soon and have been wondering if it's worth moving away from the vic for this? Is the 1/2 at the hippo much better than the vic?

We've had this discussion a few times, and I am firmly of the opinion that variance between tables in the same venue is much higher than variance between the average of each venue. I suspect there's no difference in table quality, but if I was to guess I'd say Hippo would be softer just because there'll be more casual walk-ins.

I'd agree overall, although the vic also has some pretty epic walk in whales lol.

Just moved to London and played 1/2 at the Empire last Sunday. Very soft game, no drunks though. Although I only played late afternoon to be fair.

Will check out Hippodrome maybe today to compare the venues. Played at the Pokerstars live room in Macau before, and it was very nice and modern, so I have high expectations for the Hippdrome

I would imagine evening get more drunks as walkins from Leicester square come in.

Yep, it's really an ideal location for that. Will definitely play more evenings/nights once I'm settled here.

i know its not london, but seeing as lots of people keep posting on here about southend, i thought i would add my opinions and findings since they opened the brand new G last week

pros

1. lovely clean smart venue as you would expect from a brand new casino
2. nice sports bar which is almost seperate from the casino and doesn't require sign in
3. discounted parking in a safe secure car park directly opposite the casino
4. poker room has 10 tables with possible expantion to 12/13 for possible festivals
5. really good quality and priced food, same menu as Luton G but much better quality
6. good unconditional garentee's on all poker tournaments, 5 out of 6 have overlayed since they opened
7. all comps seem to have a decent structure
8. complementry drinks
9. usb charging ports on each seat of the cash table (see pic)

cons

1. you have to deal with the same southend regulars who are either clueless smucks or part of the "regular" crew and will collude/chip dump/softplay with each other

overall, there's quite a few decent tournaments, some are a bit too cheap but they are trying to battle with the already well established Genting down the road that has had the monopoly on poker for the last 2 years

this for me is the biggest selling point, its so simple, yet so player friendly...

That USB port is awesome, does it sit flush with the table when closed?

it sits up a tiny bit, but its fine, its quite near the racetrack part of the table and doesn't get in the way, they still have a phone charging station but these are free or charge, and as far as i know the first of its kind. (the EPT have a wireless dongle thing but it was very unreliable although it was cool with its intergrated drinks holder that slides out from under the table)

they really are trying to win the poker over in Southend, and i think they will be a strong contender with the G brand behind them if they keep offering good guarantees and structures

this is there schedule, im going to try there friday night comp out, as there are so many weak/value players and a decent guarantees is possible to overlay if people stay loyal to Genting

monday and friday are the only ones i will play personally
