I recently moved from Holland to Leeds for study, but I also want to play some live poker while I'm here. However, an internet search doesn't give me alot of information on poker veneus in the area. I read some casino sites, and their poker selection doesn't seem so hot. I do believe the casino's are open 24hrs though, which is awesome.

Anyway, are their any people here would play in the area? Any tips? I play mostly limit hold em cashgames, and nl hold em tournaments.

I have never come across a limit game in England as of yet, which extends to London, Essex, Newcastle, Nottingham and Leicester.

Everywhere is NL cash games, with the odd Omaha or dealers choice available in (very) select establishments

Nah, but I play in the G Casino in Manchester on Bury New road and at the 235 underneath the Hilton Hotel.

They have regular 1/1, 1/2 games. Even a new 25nl game (Lol the rake is 10% of each pot it is not even worth playing)

Gala Casino in Leeds.

I've posted about this before, if you do a search you might find a similar thread.

But in summary, the Gala has made great strides in the last few years to improve their poker offerings.

Tournaments every night start at 8:15pm. £50 buy-in on Monday is the most expensive, most others are cheaper and some are rebuys.

Cash games are downstairs and are £0.50/£1 or £1/2NL, or PLO (which I think is £2/2)

It might not be the Venetian, but they're trying hard

Played a bit at of £1/£2 at the Alea which was pretty soft but only 4-5 people playing on one table, what's the standard like at the Gala?

Napoleons used to host a decent amount of poker, definitely had some NL, PLO and PLO8 games. I have played at the Gala a few times, but NL cash only. Players are terrible and it tends to have a sociable, friendly atmosphere. Gala and Napoleons are right opposite each other on the Kirkstall Road, near The Tannery Uni Halls and Opal 1/2 Leeds Met Halls, if you know where I'm talking about.

Standard is pretty typical for the stakes, 1 or 2 decent players per table but several soft spots.

I think the cash games start any time from 8:30pm onwards, but I can't be more precise because I'm usually still in the tournament upstairs.

I think I'm right in saying a fair amount of Napoleons players have migrated across the road with Gala charging a max £2 rake on the PLO game.

Wheres the best place to play cash games around leeds. I haven't found anything yet. I heard nottinghams 'dusk till dawn' is the best poker in the country but thats two hours from me.

I've played cash games in Leeds for the past few years. Goes without saying that none of the venues touch DTD in Nottingham. They're just your typical city casinos with your typical 40+ year old degens donking around.

I've played at 3 different venues - Grosvenor Merrion, Grosvenor Wellington Street (former Gala) and the Alea.

Grosvenor Wellington Street is the only regular game (starting at c8:30pm), playing £0.5/£1 or £1/£2 NLHE. A £2/£4 dealers choice game (Omaha 4+ cards) then usually starts at c10pm. Obviously all the games are ridic soft. They will go on until the casino shuts.

Grosvenor Merrion usually (c80% of the time) has a £0.5/£1 NLHE game going in the evening.

I haven't been to Alea for a while, but in my experience you will only find a game on weekends (also £0.5/£1 NLHE)

Sheffield has a lively scene, with similar stakes as above.

Rake is universally low (5%, Max £5). Poker is seen as a draw for the casino.

Alea shut down a long time ago.

Hi guys. I am moving to Leeds in September and I am also curious about this. I 've heard that the poker scene in Manchester is good, is this right?
I also wondered if the casinos in Leeds are open around the clock?

I've recently moved to Leeds from Sydney, cash games are more sparse than you'd/i'd expected. Games typically start 9:30 up at Merrion, about 8:30 at the other Grosvenor. Games are soft but the hours are ****, i've called around Manchester casinos today (Saturday midday) and nothings running yet either. I'd be interested to know of any games running in the day in the Leeds/Sheffield/Manchester area. Potentially they pick up from September onwards when the students return? Hopefully anyway.

I'm going to see the family in June and the brother in law has shown some interest in poker before, so was going to see if he was interested in playing a little tourny on the Saturday of my visit. My family are actually in Wakefield but I am pretty sure the closest place to play would be Leeds (if there is anywhere closer I'd be interested to hear), so I wondered if anyone had recommendations for a good low buyin (around £30) tourny that runs on Saturday evenings?
