I would look first at the hotel at Commerce Casino- not cheap but not having to drive your car is a major consideration . Being right on I-5 is a big factor.
Also/and/or consider Comfort Inn Bell Gardens, literally across the street from The Bike. Same rationale.
You can probably find quite a few affordable places near HG, from Downey down thru Long Beach. I think you must consider your potential time spent to commute to each place.
Another reason I put Commerce first is the 24hr restaurant........nothing close to 5star here, but convenient.
