Harrah's is still lollobad at 1-2 donkery. Seriously i was there over the weekend got donkstruck for my first buy-in then came back to win 300 in just over 2 hours. The donkstrikery was committed by random black guy who was calling every raise from every position with any-two some as bad as 10-3off seen him win a 75 bb pot with that gem. On my donkout hand had A-3cc in the bb flop was 2 5 7, 2 clubs to keep it brief i bet flop shoved turn got called by said donk and other random, donk had 6-2 off random had 2 pr. The turn was my 4 for gutshot river was off suit 8 lollodonk wins with running str8.
All in all harrahs is still a juicy game at the 1-2 haven't played the 2-5 in about 3 years but its full of regs now from what i see so i try to stick to 1-2. The 1-2 plays so bad 6-9 players to every flop if you play a solid lag game you should be able to kill it but i play too nitty to run over the game i can't quite translate my online agrresion to live for some reason.

Harrah's in Kansas city always has good games, and with the new Hollywood casino furiously being built next to the Kansas City Speedway, with a new card room in the area, the games and rooms are hopefully going to get even better.

If anyone has, will or does play in the KC area or if people have questions, I invite you to post. Also, anyone with information about the new casino and card room, please share!

Cheers

I haven't played poker in a casino in over a year but I wouldn't mind giving the new one at the Speedway a shot.

I don't know where to tell you to go buddy...but I know where you don't want to go...and that's Harrah's. Was there for the first time last night, and if you're not a "regular" don't bother going. General rules of Poker do NOT apply at that place. I saw every kind of old-school, out dated move in the book float right by the dealers, and several poor floor calls by supervisor personnell. I travel quite often with my job, therefore, I frequent many casinos, and Harrah's KC is quite possibly holds the 1st place ranking for worst Poker room I've ever been in. Only good part of the experience was that the dealers were friendly to everyone. And, I'm inclined to think that they have been trained to ignore basic rules and procedures for their regulars. That being said, I think the issues that occur there are not necessarily the fault of the dealers, but more mid to upper levels of management. I'll be checking out Ameristar tonight.

Wow, thats not something i usually hear about Harrah's here in KC. Maybe you can give some more examples of what exactly was "floating" past the dealers.

Harrahs does have some weird rules on the book, but for the most part i find it to be a good room.

On Sunday we had a ratholer jumping from table to table, when he did it to our table a couple of us notified the dealer who told the floor immediately, floor came over got the story, asked how much he left with. Called his supervisor/shift mgr and the guy was forced to either leave or put the rest of the monies on the table. The Floors always seem to be responsive to reasonable requests.

I wouldnt try Ameristar if i were you, all the action is usually at Harrahs. And i cant imagine you'll like the rules in that room any better.

Ameristar is a poor choice unless you're a 1/2 nl or 2/4 l player. Other than that no good. The casino is way nicer, but the card room is no bueno.

harrah's dealers are generally pretty good. The floor is questionable often, and I am very excited to e changing card rooms hopefully when Hollywood opens. Regs are regs and they do the most complaining most frequently, so dealers naturally know how they feel, what they want, what ticks em off and what makes them happy, etc. I don't think they are intentially trying to favor, but that's what happens when dealers and regs build a relationship. I Don't think it's cheating or angling, but I feel it's just a natural thing that happens in all card rooms.

Not bad at all @ Harrah's, last wednesday they had 3-4 tables 1/2, 2 2/5, and i think they schedule a wednesday 5/10 at like 6pm cause there was a long list for it. This was all after 4pm though.

As far as during the day, i dont think anything gets started until after lunch time. The first tables to open will have old nits hoping to get their Aces Cracked...

I also don't agree with some of the above statements as to the poker in Ameristar.

There bad beat has been at 275,000 for a while and there backups are the same.

Some of the easiest 1/2nl games around and they are now getting some 2/5nl games there because the poker players are fed up with the bull**** at Harrahs.

Would there be any interest from anyone in the area to help start any form of limit poker (lhe most likely I believe to attract interest most quickly) or mixed game format in one of the local card rooms, somewhere 30-60 to 100-200. Word of such a game would surely quickly spread, and it is not out of the question that there may be a sufficient base of players in the xxx sq mile radius to support or maintain such a game......

There is a pretty regular group of 20-40LHE players at Harrah's, I don't play it, but I'm sure many would be interested.

I played at Harrah's recently and have been slow rolled 5 times in the past 4 days by old guys at 3/6 limit. It annoys me.

Go to Harrahs any Thursday night and friday at noon till Sunday and you will have all the action you want in the 20/40 LHE game.

They have tried to get a bigger limit game and it wont go.

Likes:
Majority of dealers are great and friendly (Dan, Tracy, Batman, Larry, Judy, Nora, Harry, et al)
Prompt cocktail service (best over Argosy/Harrahs)
Kill pots on the limit games
Can listen to MP3 or iPod while playing
Decent 'class' of players
Can order food from servers and have it delivered to you at your seat.

Dislikes:
Walking through whole casino to get to Poker Room (Harrahs wins out on this convenience)
Name is not paged over intercom through casino and no 'buzzers' if you want to wait somewhere besides the poker room, such as restaurant or slots
No advertisement for games over intercom/loud speaker to entice players to play, especially visitors/newbies
Fewer players all the time, so fewer tables, so wait is about the same as Harrahs on a weekend night
Some tournaments have add ons and rebuys

Argosy:
Poker Room:
Likes:
Seems to spread games other casinos don't (Omaha, 4/8 limit)
A few good dealers
Bright lighting
Dedicated/nearby restroom for poker room
Name announced through casino when your seat is available.
iPod/MP3 usage allowed
Kill pots on limit games

Dislikes:
Cocktail service hit/miss depending on who is working
A lower 'class' of players than encountered at the other two poker rooms-some dealers do not control tables for abuse/harassment (sexual, verbal, etiquette, etc)
3/6 game is not always running, but they WILL start a list of interest, which usually pulls players
Smoke is bad near side rails, smallish poker room
Men using the women's restroom

Harrahs:

Likes:
Very friendly dealers
Attracts a lot of newbies from Harrah's exposure on WSOP/TV
Park on the upper level of the garage, and it's just a few steps inside the door to the poker room
Always a game going on that you'll like/enjoy
Mostly friendly players

Dislikes:
Smoky
No iPod/MP3 usage, can't hear music
Dark
Packed on weekends, can be a longer wait
No paging for players on the list over the intercom
Cocktail service can be hit and miss
No kill pot

Winners:
***Availability of games: Harrah's
***Best rules (kill pot): Ameristar (Argosy has, but is second)
***Class of players: Ameristar, near 2nd is Harrah's
***Location of room: Harrah's
***Cocktail service: Overall-Ameristar (Brenda/Shelly)
***Best dealers: Ameristar
***Smoke ventilation: Ameristar
Is this still accurate an accurate description even though its rather old? What rooms are still smoky?

Argosy's room is closed.

Harrahs really isn't smoky anymore IMO since they did their renovation. When standing at the podium you might notice it b/c of the players on break smoking behind you, but while sitting at the tables it shouldn't be a problem.

I don't play at ameristar, or at least haven't in a few years. People that play both always say the best action and game availability is at Harrahs but they like the Ameristar room better, other than having to walk further to get to it. Also Ameristar's BBJ is at ~275k and has been for awhile, so it might attract that crowd.

I've played both last week. Ameristar seems to have more action going, but that may be because the primary BBJ is at 300k and the other 2 BBJ are getting close to that amount as well. Ameristar seems to have more tables going. They do take 2 dollars for the Bad beat jackpot though.

what high limit games do they get?
Kansas City Quote

20/40 LHE is the highest game that goes as far as limit. It usually goes Thursday night and then starts back up at 12noon on friday and goes sometimes all night but if it dies out it will start back up again Saturday and run late into the night.

5/10 NLHE runs most weekends and sometimes but not normally during the week.

Every now the 10/20 NLHE games goes along with the 25/50

Good luck and if you need any more help feel free to ask me.
