Pretty sure it didn't and won't in the future.

Thinking about going to Kansas City for a few days between Christmas and New Year just to try out a new casino or two. Where are the biggest games usually played at?

Will play up to 10/20 NLH and 5/5 PLO.

Looking at Bravo it seems Ameristar has the big game(s)? Can someone confirm?

Confirmed

Did you like the action you saw?

I just went to Ameristar recently and wasn't super happy with the remodel. they enclosed most of the room and have a cashier cage right there so you can now reg for tournaments much easier, but there is still a large opening in front and you still get the smoke and the slot noise. It is a bit nicer but probably the worst of the 3 cardrooms in town as far as game selection. Seems like they mostly run 3-6.

Harrahs room is completely enclosed and is nice if you don't like the smoke or noise.

Has anyone tried playing cash games at Hollywood during one of the Nascar race weekends? I'd been avoiding it because it seems like a traffic/parking nightmare, but that's a lot of people trapped there with little else to do and I'm thinking that might make for some soft games. Confirm? Deny?

The poker games don't change much because the room already fills on Friday and almost fills on Saturday. Every race we think it will be good and theres not much improvement, tables games obv booming tho.

I've played twice on race weekend and it is full of the same bad regs that are there every weekend. NASCAR fans are more the table games types and less poker.

As far as NL/PLO goes, you have to play at Hollywood if you are looking for games above 1/2. ( Except for 2/5 Friday nights at Harrahs)

How often do those games run and which days?

2/5 at Hollywood is going most days, at least according to people that go there frequently. I don't really like the casino and don't want to drive 30 mins to get there, so I am far away from being a regular guest. The couple times I went during the week, it was hit and miss if 2/5 was going or not. But I am pretty sure they have at least one table on the weekends.

Ameristar apparently sometimes has a 5/5 PLO game, but I have no clue how often. I've never seen a 5/10+ game around here, but that doesn't mean there aren't any.

5/5 PLO is going at Ameristar on Mondays at 6:45pm and also Friday and Saturday nights starting usually at 4:45 with a feeder starting around 6.

Will be in town Friday night and my hotel is same distance from Ameristar and Harrahs. Be looking to play 1/2-2/5NL or 1/2PLO. Which is my best bet? Thanks.

Harrah's has an uncapped 2/5 game going on Fridays. Not sure how March Madness at Sprint Center is going to influence the action on the weekend.

2/2 PLO going to start going at Hollywood on Tuesday nights at 6pm. 100-300 buyin.

I *might* have a free evening next week in KC. Wed or Thur.

Where is my best bet. Prefer limit if it’s not a bunch of rocks but 1/2 or 1/3 is fun too. Low buyin donkaments are good.

Thanks

Best place for limit might actually be Ameristar. 1/2 NL at Harrahs or 1/3 at Hollywood.

Ameristar is your best bet for limit games. I played at Hollywood last Wednesday and again this Monday in the 1/3nl game. Action was decent. Had a few tables going each time.

Any particularly nicer or crappier than the others? One best for food?

Hollywood is the newest one. Ameristar is pretty nice, too and Harrah’s is at least decent. The run down places like Isle of Capri don’t have poker rooms.

As far as food options go, Hollywood has a pretty good steak house that’s above the one at Harrahs imo. Haven’t eaten at Ameristar.

But as far as food goes, I’d advice every non-vegetarian tourist to have BBQ before going to the casino. There’s a million good BBQ restaurants in KC including the famous Joe’s KC (from Anthony Bourdain’s list of 13 places to eat before you die) and my personal favorite Q39 but if you decide to go to Hollywood Casino, there’s an Arthur Bryant’s location basically next door. I have only been to their original location but I don’t see a reason why that one wouldn’t be as good. The casino is next to the Kansas Speedway and the Legends Mall.

How many nights a week can you find a 2-5 NLH game in KC? Or a 5-5 PLO game

I would monitor Bravo to see what games are running. Harrahs has an uncapped (?) 2/5 game Friday night; Hollywood has 2/5 at least on the weekends; and Ameristar is hit or miss, but Thursday night seems to be a good chance there.

Ameristar to Harrah’s are only a 10 minute drive without traffic, but getting from one of them to Hollywood is close to 30 minutes. Coming from downtown, Hollywood is the longest distance but basically same time than the other two because it’s a straight shot on the interstate.
