Glasgow, Scotland

Thinking of reggin it up at the NL200 games they got there cause from what I hear the competition is super weak (Scotland lol). Just wondering if anyone from 2p2 is Scottish and/or living in Scotland and plays in the Alea or any Glasgow casinos for that matter. Probably gonna play the random tournys they got goin on all week aswell since typically Scottish people are clueless when it comes to poker in general (stereotyping my own country more lol). Would like to know if theres any hero grinders playin in Scotland and where I can get sum gud gud EV. Bored of crushing home games with mates who are horrid for petty cash and cba depositing online to get crushed by hero regs or playing MTTs till I implode.

So ye hit me up if ur a Scottish live hero grinder.

Re: Alea Casino, Glasgow (or other Glasgow casinos)

Hi.

Alea has some pretty decent MTT's but the cash games arent so great. You pay more for dealers who are awful than from other establishments. If you want cashgames in particular. Go to Cincinati Club on bridge st, next to The Glasweigian. They have £200 NL mondays, wednesdays, fridays saturdays. usually around 10/11pm. tues/thursday is a ridic stupid game of 6card PLO, whcih is just full of guys with too much money straight gambling. The run MTT's every night that get ok-ish numbers and usually run around 7pm.

If I were you I'd head through to the Maybury in Edinburgh this weekend. They have a £500 ME and sure to be a ton of cashgames running on the side.

Re: Alea Casino, Glasgow (or other Glasgow casinos)

whats the competition like in both for nlhe? id be happy going anywhere where its an easy crush. are the dealers really that bad in alea compared to anywhere else? i wouldnt mind too much i mean i can put up with seeing a few less hands per hr it just means they dont get tipped as much or are they actually unprofessional full stop? dont drive and my gf wont be too happy about driving me into edinburgh and public transport is dire... but idk.

what about alea MTT's vs cincinati MTT's on busy, popularity + drunken scrub factor?

thanks alot for the info mate, you reg at cincinati or?

Re: Alea Casino, Glasgow (or other Glasgow casinos)

changed to tomorrow most likely, £50 deep in alea sounds promising.

Re: Alea Casino, Glasgow (or other Glasgow casinos)

I play mostly in the tournaments at the Merchant City Gala. Like most tournaments it's usually scared money by the last 15 players and you can exploit the **** out of it. Cashes are usually around 10% of the field, but I find it easy to add an extra payout place when on the final table ad no one wants to bust out with no money. Even though I don't play like scared money (even though I am half the time :D) a breakeven night is better than a no cash night.

Monday Night
8.30pm - £10 + £1 Plus 1 £10 Add-on - 6,000 (add-on 6,000)

Blinds start at 50/100, 20 minute blinds.

Usually anything from 40-60 runners. Plays pretty short pretty quickly, so having an aggressive short stack game is +evvvv. Stacks at final table usually range from 10-50bbs. Shoving the blinds/late position limps nearly every time it comes round is usually optimal depending on opponents/stack sizes. Players rarely stack off light.

Tuesday Night "League Night" Early Reg Bonus
8.30pm - £20 + £2 Freeze Out - 8,000 (2,000)

Blinds start at 50/100, 20 minute blinds.

Have only played this twice and done nothing notable. A lot of regs from the time I've been there.

Wednesday Night "Beginners Night" Early Reg Bonus
8.30pm - £10 + £1 Freeze Out - 6,000 (2,000)

Blinds start at 50/100, 20 minute blinds.

"Bingo night" as I've heard it referred to by the regs, but can be profitable. Again aggression is King as the need to build chips quickly is paramount with the big fields (anything from 60-100 being the biggest I've seen.) It is usually full of students, so if you make it to FT they are the easiest to exploit. The play can be looser on some nights though given the field is younger and willing to make moves, so a bit more swingy.

Thursday Night "The Devils Turbo"
8.00pm - £20 + £2 1 Rebuy + 1 Add On (£10+£10) - 6,000 (6000 +6000)

Blinds start at 50/100, 15 minute blinds

Never played this.

Friday Night
8.00pm - £20 + £2 (1 £10 add-on) - "Freeze Out Plus" - 8,000 (4,000)

Blinds start at 50/100, 20 minute blinds.

I play football on Friday nights so only had the chance to play this once and shipped it. Helped that my K5 cracked aces aipf halfway through the tournament after I shoved from the button to take down a ton of limps :D Plays mostly like a Monday night from what I remember.

Saturday Night "The Deep Double"
8.00pm - £30 + £3 - Double Chance - 16,000 (8,000 + 8,000)

Blinds start at 50/100, 20 minute blinds.

Given that players can opt not to take their 8k straight away means this plays kind of short most of the time.

Sunday Afternoon "Super Sunday"
2.00pm - £20 + £2 - Freeze Out Turbo, Early Reg Bonus 8,000 (2,000)

15 minute blinds.

Never played. Less than 20 mins is just a crapshoot.

Sunday Evening "Freeze Out"
8.30pm - £30 + £3, Early Reg Bonus 16,000 (2000)

Blinds start at 50/100, 20 minute blinds.

Best tournament they run by a long shot. Edges are massive, players can be bullied off scare cards with massive barrelling, players can't get off big pairs for stacks when it is obvious they are destroyed. Valuetown all night long.

Im from Glasgow (staying in Edinburgh currently though)

If you are looking for a good £1/2 cash game I would highly recommend you get down to the Gala Riverboat Thursday through too monday. The game kicks off at around 10-11pm and it is sublime for any competent NLHE player. Its always the same faces, became a semi reg in the summer and the group of regualur players are very bad, with lots of money. grinding there in the summer I won like 8 out of 11 sessions.

Be ready to play against old degen guys with 800BBs where the standard c-bet is 2x pot etc.

Re: Glasgow, Scotland Poker Thread

Went to bingo night at the Merchant last night. Couldn't get there on time for the extra chips and busted out pretty quickly getting no hands, or any spots to make moves. Meh

@ zAAne - I have a friend who agrees with your assessment of that game :D

I have taken a stab at live cash a few times, but purely don't have the bankroll/liferoll to handle losing the scared money at the table. I had a run at it last month and made a fair bit, then lost about half of it back (Flopped Top set losing to top 2 (hit runner runner flush) being the worst urghhhh) so had to stop due to needing the money.

thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.

tbh i dont have the roll for it either, i have like 2 BI to go first time, taking a shot so to speak, would prob be better playing the tournys cuz if i sit down with £200 2 bullets and go busto i can see myself raging. i honestly have higher hopes than i should cause i know how easy it is to bust 2 BI's v random 20% heros but w/e cba grinding low no patience, i need to actually be playing with money that really matters to me for me to play properly.. when playing .10/.20 or w/e i feel like shoving pre every hand cause its just so dull.. degen or what lol, guess ill focus when its for srs moneys.

I might be there tonight. Undecided yet as cash is that tight for even a £12 game :D

Forgot to add to anyone interested that merchant are charging £1 extra a tournament that goes towards a big tournament on the 3rd Dec (I believe). To qualify you must come top 3 on any night between now and the 3rd (It's beenrunning for about 2 weeks now)

How did you find the final tables? I usually find if you go into them with any sort of medium stack you can just shove like **** and get big cashes more often than not. Everyone being so scared to lose that close to the cash is great.

i actually played super tight only shoving my 7-11ish bb stack in LP or with a monster (i was carddead for about 4 orbits so w/e) until it went about 6 handed on the bubble i was down to like 5bb and started shoving like a madman like any SC Q8+ lol, sucked out with A3 vs 99 iirc was hj and she was bb.. meh. if i had a big stack going in i would definately exploit the **** out of it more.. and even more again in places like alea where the buyins are bigger.. i couldnt care less about bubbling losing £20 or 5th winning £50 after grinding that long.. kinda wanted to bust early was playing almost every hand so i could either bust some randoms or get busted and play the cash game, looked juicy.

btw if u see me in merchant city or anywhere else for that matter ud better declare urself so i know that ur more solid than the rest of the table haha ;D

Played last night, busted tourny early.. played cash game, got JJ cracked pf by 85 for £100, then KQ flop Q104 i bet some guy shoves and i just tiltcall he shows Q10 zzz. then obv i have the 85, flop comes 8 5 10 some guy overbets i shove he calls with AA and 10 comes on river weeeeeeeeeeeee. then i pick an awesome time to squeeze with QJ on a 8 7 3 flop, guy has KK. figured hed lay down A8 and the guy behind had maybe 7 or a draw and was folding np. was just super tired towards the end tbh and wanted to either get something going fast or bust and go home.. down £500 last night awesome.

some guy got his flopped straight with flush redraw cracked by AA on a 6 7 8 board where all the money goes in OTF then turn and river come 7 and A :|. then some other guy flops straight it goes in OTF and some other guy gets runner runner flush. last nights randomness was pretty sick for the guys who were ahead... all the wrong people busted.
