hey guys I'm driving down edm from Vancouver later this month with the wife. looking to stay about 5 nights to see the city and explore. and play some poker 2/5 NL 1/2 NL. Any recommendations? Looks like Cree is right beside the mall.

I was thinking staying near the biggest mall in canada! Since I loved that place when I was a child and me and my wife can do many activities there. Or is there any other recommendations you guys have?

thanks in advance

i recommend the yellowhead casino poker room. cree doesn't have 2/5 and it's a smoking environment.

Seems Palace's poker room is still closed during renovations, and the new place replacing Baccarat has no poker

I played twice at Cree a few months ago when I visited Edmonton, didn't notice any smoking whatsoever...

Is "cards speak" not a real rule in Edmonton? I pointed out a pot going the wrong way after both hands were shown (dealer and owner undercalled one) and the table sort of passively yelled at me ("I'm glad you said something but you shouldn't"), and the dealer agreed that I wasn't supposed to. I meant to ask the floor but never ended up back in the room. Seems like a decent opportunity for cheating if so...

Another highlight, different room: Player accidentally mucks his cards forcefully, one ends up in another player's hand. It is very clear which card is the additional one (different orientation), and victim has not looked at or touched it. Hand dead, mucker volunteers to refund victim's action (only a $5 limp/open, thankfully).

Which casino was that at rchandra? That's absolutely ridiculous.

Cards touching = dead hand (unless a chip protector is on top) seems pretty standard everywhere.

That was at Century, with a pretty experienced and (other than that) competent-seeming dealer.

The card thing - perhaps more a question for B&M, I'm certainly no expert but I thought hands shouldn't be killed through magic when possible. A chip resting on it would have changed nothing in this case, the only real protection is obscuring the cards with your hands which leads to other problems.

whats going on everyone!

Whats the cash games like in Edmonton.. Any difference as per regulars/skill from River cree to Yellowhead?

Ive tried calling down to River cree 3 times now in the past to ask about seats available for 1/2...and every time.. yup theres 3 or 2 seats available.. i ask them to put my name on the list since the casino is only 10 mins from my place... but when I get there 10-15 mins later... theres 2-3 full tables with a list of 4+ waiters... im like WTF... then i end up either leaving and wasting my time.. or play in the small $60 buy in tournaments which for the most part a joke.

The 25/50 PLO and 2/5 PLO games have moved from Argyle to Century.

Hey guys. Long time reader of this forum but finally registered.

Action was good the past 2 weeks at Yellowhead with the deepstack series.

I played an even mix of River Cree, Argyl and Yellowhead depending on where the action is. Obviously it's been the Yellowhead the last 2 weeks.

Argyl is closer, River Cree has Norman but Yellowhead has more games usually.

Anyone else crushing the live games in Edmonton?

I'm in town most of next week, staying near Casino Edmonton. That place any good, or should I just drive to Yellowhead?

River Crew is a nice place. If you're in Edmonton, make sure you play there at least once. I ran bad in a couple key spots, but my table was good and the players and dealers were quite friendly.

Anyone play during Klondike days in the past? Looks like there is a tournament series during it this year and was thinking of driving down to play the main and some NL cash games.
Any idea what type of games will run during the festivals? Also where to play?

Thanks

Was in town for a few days and decided to check out Casino Edmonton (Argyl) and decided to play their Saturday afternoon tourney.

Their website advertises $50 + 5 + 5

After doing the math in my head the next day, I calculated that they took 1/3rd of the prize pool. I made a phone call and this was confirmed by a house woman that they in fact took 33.3% of the prize pool and in reality making it a $40 + 20 donkament, and not what their website states.

She said she'd talk to the I.T dept, but the website still hasn't been changed.

Don't ever waste your time with Argyle ever again. Edmonton has way better choices like Yellowhead and River Cree.

The word on the street is that Palace is starting poker again, and will be putting back all the jackpot money (6 × $20000, I heard).

Would like some help from you locals to this area. I am the new ambassador for an small but growing online poker site, and they wish to send me on some tours of the world to engage with local players and generate new customers. Right now, the owner would like to try and get more Canadian players on the site. We have been very successful so far with generating new players through poker clubs. Not the kind of public poker rooms that are usually discussed in this thread, but private clubs where groups of friends get together to play tournaments and cash games. The kind of clubs that often run competitions to send 1 or more of their members to the WSOP.

If you are in such a club, please reach out to me here by PM, by messaging me on my website (www.FossilManPoker.com/contact.html), by hitting me up on twitter (@FossilMan), or by posting in this thread (least preferred method). We would love to learn more about your club, and see if we can arrange for me to visit and play with your group for a day. We might also be able to arrange some of my FossilMan Poker Training as part of the visit.

Even if not in this area, if you are in or know about a club that might be interested, I'd appreciate it if you would provide me with the info.

Thanks for reading this post, and looking forward to visiting your club!

Cheers, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)
