Found this job posting online.

Companies probably don't start hiring unless it's a lock.

Sugarhouse owns Rivers in Pittsburgh ... are you sure it's not an ad for them because I googled as well and the ad I saw was for part-time dealers at Rivers. My friend would like a job at Sugarhouse when they start poker.

Played a lot of online poker in college and have been getting back into live poker the last few weeks. So far I've only played at Harrahs Chester, and have been running decently. Ive heard mixed reviews about Parx Casino. Some say there are hotter staff at Parx, Harrahs is a sketchy area...so on so on....

Bottom line, where is the better place to make money on the tables? Comps, things like BBJ and cash giveaways are nice, but from a profit/poker standpoint, which is my best bet for a Friday afternoon/night?

Thanks!

Mrs.deadfish and I are considering relocating to the eastern PA area.

I play poker fulltime and she is a hairdresser.

Any suggestions on areas that are affordable and not aidsville will be much appreciated.

Thanks guys.

There's almost as many poker rooms in the Philly area (SugarHouse, Parx, Harrah's and you can throw in Delaware Park since it's only a half hour from Harrah's plus there's another Philly-proper casino in the works) as in Atlantic City now. Throw in all of the AC rooms just over an hour away and it's a mecca for poker these days.

Do you want to live in a city, the suburbs or a more rural area? You can pretty much pick and choose and still be less than an hour's drive away from several rooms.

We are indifferent.

Our main concerns are being able to find a place in a DECENT neighborhood and have a rent of <800

We only need one. Even a studio is fine. We have a dog however.

You'll have no problem getting a place with that price although the dog might make it harder. Philly has some bad neighborhoods but also a lot of places that are just fine, albeit still in an urban environment.

Essentially you can stay in the city but you'll be hit with a payroll tax even if you work outside of Philly. The burbs to the North and West will save you that. Jersey can be horribad (like Camden) but also nice if you don't mind being not next door to any one casino but an hour or less between a ton of them.

I'd suggest you hit up Craigs List just to get a feel for things and come back here with specific questions.

Hey guys,

Im planning a multi week trip (2-3 weeks) to Philly coming up. I have always been a Foxwoods/Borgata player but I want to mix it up and Philly looks like it is much cheaper and much easier to get to then those two spots (from NYC). I will be heading down from New York on one of the many cheap buses that run from port authority. I plan on staying with someone on AirBnB as the rates on there are much cheaper than any hotels I have looked at. I plan on playing 1-2/1-3/2-3 NL for long hours while I am there. I will not have a car so transportation is a minor concern, I don't want to be too far from the card rooms (though they all look close and public trans seems decent).

So anyways I am just asking for any input at all since I have never been there, which room has the best comps/action/fish, whats a good neighborhood to stay in while I am there, things I should definitely check out while in the city, etc. Thanks!

Parx is the area's big room (ala Foxwoods/Borgata) so you may feel more comfortable there. All the rooms will spread $1/2 and $1/3.

Harrah's in Chester has better comps that can be used at all CET properties.

Sugarhouse is probably the best place if you are relying on public transportation because it's in the city but all of them have direct SEPTA lines that go there.

In Parx you pay for booze, in Sugarhouse it's free. At Harrah's you get free drinks at $1/3 and above.

There's tons of touristy **** in Philly depending on what you're into. I do suggest you try a few different cheesesteaks while you're here - I'm a Jim's Steaks guy (preferably the South Street location) but people will argue their own personal faves. And there's the whole birthplace of the nation deal if that moves you.

Most of all have fun. This city is far from perfect but it's pretty cheap compared to cities it's size, you have a ton of poker and there's no shortage of fish at the tables.

Thanks man. I think you sold me with the free booze at Sugarhouse. I will probably check out all three card rooms eventually though. Definitely going to try an authentic cheese steak for sure. I am a huge history guy so if I have the time and energy I will go check out Independence Hall and a few other places... how bout nightlife? best areas? not necessarily most expensive/hottest girls/etc... you know, good people, good scene, maybe some decent live music... good prices would definitely be a plus. Cheers

Did a one day dry run down there at the sugarhouse, had a solid 2 buy in + day so cant complain about that. Only complaint about sugarhouse is the bathrooms not being in the same room as the card room, other than it was solid. Easy to get to, public transportation was easy to navigate, etc. Will definitely be coming back and trying harrahs and parx at some point. Thanks again for the info.

I don't know where else to post this... Tioga Springs has soft launched. Thurs eve right now and there are 5 1/3NL and one 2/5 going. I can't seem to find a hype thread or venue thread... Anyone checking it out this weekend? One of my favorite ex-Sands dealers is now there, so I definitely am.

Hey Nicole, if this is a new venue that has opened and there is no thread for it already, please feel free to make one. But of course your post is fine here too. Qhat town in PA is it in?

Flying in to Philly airport and renting a car and will have about 36 hours to check out the local poker rooms. From my initial research I have narrowed it down to:

1) Parx
2) Sugarhouse
3) Sands

I typically play 2/5 and 5/5 NL but have no problem splashing around at a fun 1/2 or 1/3 game.

Been tracking the table counts on Bravo and it's clear that Parx has the most game selection by far. I'm thinking I may pop my head into Sugarhouse since it's so close to the airport then heading to Parx and if for some reason I don't like it there maybe making the drive up to Sands.

Anybody from the area have any other ideas or suggestions for a Philly poker first timer?

Thx
