Tioga Downs is located in Nichols, NY which is only a couple of miles north of the Pennsylvania border around Scranton and Binghamton. It's more central PA than Eastern tho.

Been tracking the table counts on Bravo and it's clear that Parx has the most game selection by far. I'm thinking I may pop my head into Sugarhouse since it's so close to the airport then heading to Parx and if for some reason I don't like it there maybe making the drive up to Sands.

Anybody from the area have any other ideas or suggestions for a Philly poker first timer?

Thx
You'll find more $2/5 and higher at Parx than any other rooms for sure.
Harrah's is likely the closest to the airport if you wanna play $1/2 or $1/3. Sands is a hike.

So it seems as though going into Philly every night for a dinner is going to be a disaster when I have my own car in terms of parking and parking fees correct? Can the same be said about staying in the trevose/bensalem area? Will be staying in Trevose and playing primarily @ Parx. What are some other close suburbs with good food options without parking hassles. Would probably chose to avoid Philly unless I was going to Sugarhouse or a restaurant one or two nights specifically. (ARE all public parking meters filled on the streets 24/7 and expensive in Philly? Would prefer not to be parking in garages just go to to a restaurant for 2 hrs. Thanks a bunch in advance.

There are a ton of restaurant choices not far from you at Parx. Honestly I just open up Yelp and look at what is there but you will have many options (save for maybe super upscale) within a 10-15 minute drive of Parx with parking.

Yeah yelp is fine however I noticed a lot more chain and mediocre rated places in that area as opposed to Philly :-/

Yes but that's what happens in the suburbs and you seemed reluctant to deal with parking which is what happens in the city. Choose your own adventure.

I'd go into Philly if I were you. Only a couple places are difficult getting street parking and it's not nearly as bad as in other cities I have lived in (NYC, DC).

Right understood. Am going to be with some family that can't walk a whole lot for a few days and didn't wanna be detured worrying about overpaying and having to park far away to go to a place (for example) Dim Sum Garden on a weeknight for dinner. Also had read how confusing the street parking signs can be and strict etc. If you (or anyone else reading) happen to know as my example that area as far as specifically street parking as opposed to a garage, would be?

Thanks kindly all!

Street parking around Dim Sum Garden is rough. You can reserve a place 0.1 miles from there for ten hours at Parking Panda for $13 or 0.4 miles away for only $10 (the latter will give you a whole day to park though I don't know if you can come and go) which isn't terrible especially if you want to do more stuff around the city.

Yeah haha that's what I was hoping to avoid. Guess I can check that site for specific parking before I try and head out to a place in the city, but not sure if that lists metered parking which I would assume is usually quite hard to get. Nonetheless I would guess I'll be able to find enough non chain good places even in some areas of NJ that will be close enough by and the other suburbs of Philly.

IDk what type of food you're looking for but here are some options:

El Changarro ( street mexican)
Andale latino grilll (better version of chipotle)
toscana (italian steak)
Dog and Bull (burger bar)
KO - 20 minutes north in newtown (korean/sushi)
Chickie and Petes inside parx is fine for seafood.

There are a couple of sushi places on busleton about 10 minutes away which are all solid/fine.

Thank you. Cuisine wasn't the concern. The parking or lack there of in the immediate vicinity of possible destinations was ;-)

sup everyone

Moved to the area a couple years ago but haven't been to any of the card rooms yet.

Will be taking my first outing, to Parx in a few weeks from now. I've been trying to learn PLO8 and would like to play that live; from their website, it looks like they offer it in principle. Can anyone tell me if it runs, on a Friday night?

On Bravo last night I saw a game that the app called "2-2 POT LIMIT OMAHA" and I can't figure out what that means because that doesn't match anything that I see on their website.

On the Parx website I see:
$1/$2 Hi/Low $100-$500
$5 Single blind $200-$1000
$5/$5 $500-$2000

If no PLO8 then I might try their $6/$12 OE although I'll definitely be a fish in E, so that might not be a great idea for me...

I think you got the answer you wanted on the Parx thread.

If you are interested in other local rooms, Delaware Park has a consistent $2/5 PLO game (not PLO8) and they will allow you to run it twice (and I have seen three times).

There's not much non-Hold Em action at the other rooms as far as I know. Certainly not Harrah's.

Oh, and I, too, am a suffering Knicks fan... Sucks.

Decisions, decisions...

None of you were any help!

I decided against Delaware park because of the longer drive and less cash game options should I busto.

I decided on SugarHouse when a friend on Facebook said the prize pool would hit $10k and I called Harrah's and the person who answered seemed non-committal about it even running.

SugarHouse didn't hit $10k though it made the guarantee. We wound up doing an 8-way ICM chop. I was second in chips and got essentially third place money. I also played well, I thought - made good decisions that allowed me to survive a short stack until I got some hands at the end.

Any Philly-area casinos serving booze yet?

I know parx is, and since they're allowed to now I'm sure all the other ones probably are too.

What casinos have free beer and what ones do you have to pay for?

I asked Live if they knew what they were doing when they were able to serve alcohol and they said they didn't know.

Rivers is free, pretty sure Live is too. Parx charges for alcohol.

Parx free on floor... Charging in poker. Rivers was same iirc but it's been eternity since I played poker there.

Live such a weird spot. I could see them getting away with charging on floor and poker given their location.
