Thing is, not everyone is going to the Tigers game, but those of us that are going can golf that morning too.

And we can still have the golf/poker outing for the rest of the group.

Multiple meetings ftw. Like gamblers anonymous--but we don't want to quit.

I am up in Saginaw. The golf game and poker sounds fun. Would this be open to fish?

For sure. I added you to the list.

Moving up to Royal Oak, MI and wondering what's better for craps/poker.

Windsor or MGM. I am a TR member, so interested in joining MGM, etc.

Also what can I expect for a night rate when I come look for apt/houses

Any recommendations around Royal Oak for apt's/houses?

I cannot help with your other inquiries but the only real poker room in the area is at Motor City Casino.

I'd recommend playing a few times at each of the rooms. Search the thread, I know I've answered similar questions before, as have others. There are pros and cons to each room in town. Figure out which one works best for you and then play there.

... and this is part of why there's no traffic in some of the other rooms.
MGM had a 200k BBJ last time I was down there and the room wasn't full on a Friday night. The differences between the rooms doesn't seem all that large to me, dealers are so-so at both (some great, some awful too), same with the floormen. MGM has a nicer room with better lighting and chairs, but MCC has some cheap**** free snacks.

Angrist,

What does a normal day look like at MGM? What are the hours they are open as well? I just have not went there myself lately as others have told me MGM and Greektown are basically dead. If that is not the case I may want to head down there myself soon.

Sorry to ask a question that I'm sure has been asked a billion times in this thread's 1200+ pages...

I'm staying in Detroit (Royal Oak) and I'm looking for the softest 1/2-ish NL game around. Also, trying not to get killed by rake, or hourly-type fee. Don't have a clue how any of these poker rooms compare.

So I know of the MGM, Motor City, Greektown. Also I know there are some charity rooms around.

Suggestions? Thanks a lot, you guys.

Softest is MGM, hands down. Most action would be MCC. Greektown from what I hear is garbo. Rake is about same in every casino I think is 10% or 6 max plus BJJ drop of $1... Charity is about same, 10% or $6 or $7 max with no BJJ drop.

I almost never get downtown during the week, to any of the rooms. (Maybe 3 times a year after a hockey game.) So I'm pretty much only talking about weekend action (Friday-Sunday).

First off, the room itself is upstairs next to a Sushi bar and night club, all non-smoking. You have to take an elevator up off the main casino floor. Sometimes there's of people to pay their cover and get into the club, just walk around them. Room has 9 tables, all very big and 10 handed. Lots of space, good lighting, mostly nice chairs. Cage and bathroom located right upstairs as well. It's open 24 hours a day on weekends, and the few times I've stuck around past 4am there have been games running Fri/Sat. Room closes at 6am on weekdays, re-opens at noon. There's no free food, but they'll comp you $1/hr for meals.

I've never had any major problems with the floormen or the dealers. There are some of your typically bad dealers, and some good ones, but nothing that's out of normal for any non-vegas casino I've ever been to.

On recent Fridays I've seen 4 $1/2 games + 1-2 $2/5 games at around 8pm, sometimes a few more, usually another table or two opens before 10pm. It hasn't been completely packed in a little while, start of the summer with the first nice weather seems to do that everywhere. Saturdays I get down less often, but the traffic is pretty similar to Fridays.

Sundays are less busy, 3 $1-2 games +1 $2/5, maybe 4 $1/2 and no $2/5.

I wouldn't call that dead.

Fridays and Saturdays the nightclub next door can get really loud and obnoxious (part of it is that you only hear some of the frequencies, so it just sounds like pounding and not like music). Sundays without the club noise are really nice and quiet.

There are a lot of regs that play there, but a lot of them are awful. Lot of nitty guys that you never have to pay off, some complete spew monkeys, your usual assortment of other bad players, etc. There are a few good regs, but it's easy enough to figure out who they are and level them off their hands. It might not have as much "action" as MCC, but you can still totally beat the room, albeit with a slightly different strategy than you might employ at MCC.

One other key difference is the min/max buy in for the $1/2 game. It's $50 min, $300 max. MCC is only $200 max for the $1/2 game. So depending on the table you can get into deeper spots faster than you could at MCC.

Honestly, each room has its pluses and negatives, but at the end of the day I don't see a really big advantage to one or the other. What I don't understand is why there are open seats at MGM on a weekend, with a $200k+ BBJ, while there's a list 50 people long at MCC. I don't want to wait more than an hour for a seat after calling ahead and driving a 1/2 hour to get there.

I give the same advice to everyone that asks though ... play in all of the rooms more than once. See which ones fits what *you* look for in a room, and which one has more players that are vulnerable to your natural play style. That's the right way to find the 'best' room.

Thanks a lot for all of this information. I will definitely head down there this weekend.
