Yes, but it's hold 'em. You have a much bigger advantage on all the money they're putting in bad with any two pretty cards when you wait on premiums. Boring, and quite profitable.

(I'm not 100% sure this is true in a game like Omaha, where preflop advantages are a lot less. If they're bad enough preflop -- such as the legendary $2000 straddles i've heard about at Roundtree -- then it's still a great game to be in.

I think you have to factor in variance. Winning hands without showdowns is a good way to improve results imo. I do think getting stacks in pre is profitable at these type tables, but you need hands with high showdown value.

Okay, seriously? Get a grip. I'm talking about a half dozen pennies which, at 70-80 mph, can't do more than chip the paint. It's not like I'm not throwing a bloody brick at 'em or slamming on my brakes. (The latter being not an uncommon retaliatory practice.)

If someone is driving their car so far up my ass that I can't see their headlights, then they're putting me in far more danger than a half dozen pennies nicking up their car.

I'm no lawyer, but (subject to the law) i'd convict you if i were on the jury. Seriously. Probably not of attempted murder, though, unless your intention was to kill someone.

The safe way to put a scare into someone tailgating you is just to quickly tap the brakes (not hard enough to actually get rear-ended, ldo). I've gotten a middle finger or two that way, which i take as a confession that they realize they can't drive worth ****. It has an added benefit of adding to your following distance, giving you more reaction time to compensate for their lack of it.

This is not safe. This makes the road incredibly more dangerous than doing nothing.

Step one of avoiding tailgating is to ask yourself "am I being tailgated because I am in a lane I shouldn't be?" I rarely (if ever) observe tailgating in travel lanes, and frequently see it when people are impeding passing lanes. Something to consider.

Re: Detroit

srsly. my first reaction to someone tailgating me is that they're in a big enough hurry to drive recklessly, and I should let em pass

not chuck coins out the sunroof lol I love your gusto tho

your immediate reaction is a strong desire for revenge, and to become your own arbiter of road karma

which is hilarious, but definitely psychopathic behavior. if I were king of the road (which I will be as soon as I dispense the proper amount of street justice), I'd ship you off to Afghanistan to win that **** for mother****in America once and for all.

I once stopped my car on the beltway in DC in the left lane and got out because someone was tailgating me so bad.. I was much younger and a lot more brave (or stupid) then.

Two hrs in, up about 140. Game is pretty good right now. Surprised were only 9 handed. Made my money by flopping nut flush and dodged boat draws against two people.

Doing nothing = they keep tailgating, i keep having someone with no reaction time behind me.

Tapping brakes quickly = they get a scare, either back off or change lanes, and i don't have someone with no reaction time behind me. I don't see how that's any contest.

I suppose the official driver's ed approach is just to slow down gradually, which i do as well (if they don't get the hint).

Perhaps you just arrived from Mars, or Denmark, or somewhere else where they drive much better than Detroit. This is the Detroit thread, so i was referring to local conditions, where they certainly tailgate you in the right lane, the left lane, the center lane, wherever. I don't stay in the left lane if i'm blocking people (except long enough to pass and get out of their way).
