I am unaware of how many people are aware that Greektown runs a 35.00 dollar tourney for ladies only at 11am Mondays. I have never really been in greektown at 11am monday morning, so I can only guess that this is retired old ladies wanting to play some sort of poker other than 3/6.
Now, I have a friend that is less than intelligent. He wants to go ahead and play the tournament, a la Shaun Deeb and Co. at the WSOP. I understand that there is no way that Greektown can stop him from playing, but what are peoples thoughts for that? Now, I am off of work and school tomorrow and will most likely be down there for this. I am contemplating playing said tournament as well, more so to see the reaction than for the edge. However, if I do play, and do cash, I will donate all of the money to a Womens Shelter in Detroit.
What is your reaction to people playing ladies events? Even small ones like this?
Also, any chance that my assholish behavior can be condoned due to the donating of money if I win (including stake).
I am more in it to see A) the social stigma attached to playing a ladies event. B) To see how bad these people play (I am a slight winner online 1.3BB/100 at 10/20LHE and slight loser at 2/4NL, 1.65BB/100). C) To interact with the entrants and see how they react to a man playing in a ladies only tournament, on a small stage, not the WSOP.
Sorry for the long post, I write the longest f'in posts ever.

Dealer tipping has been put on hold.

Officially, the dealers at a charity poker room are not allowed to accept tips. If the state sees it happen, bad things can happen to the charity, the dealer, and the charity poker room.

Unofficially, there's a lot of tipping going on. Be generous, be subtle.

Yea, I played at Johnny G's, a sports bar in downtown Mt Clemens, last week. This place just started offering poker. They have 3 cash tables and blackjack going. The blackjack was crazy, no seats open. 2 cash tables going but 1 game was short...the full table was round x round, not sure what the limits were but looked like a lot of chips on the table.

Yea tipping is still not allowed. This is supposed to change when the state removes dealer pay from the millionaire party proceeds altogether. No more $50 per day rules, dealers are to be paid by the suppliers...and tipping is supposed to be allowed.

This was supposed to happen last year, but it keeps getting delayed...not sure when it will officially happen.

finally got around to checking out snookers in utica on saturday after chatting w/ a dealer there who was playing MCC. IDK why i've been putting up w/ the waitlists @ MCC as of late because this place pretty great. friendly fast dealers, good atmosphere and i almost forgot that 1/2 can actually be fun when you don't have to hear about the BBJ every other orbit. people actually buying in for 100bb warmed my heart too. theres also a 1/2 (1/2 plo, switched to 2/5 on the holdem side later in the night) RxR game and I loves me some PLO.

tried hazel park earlier in the week but I guess the games don't go off until 8pm after some garbage 20+10 tournament. doubt i'll be back at least during the week. is it worth checking out on the weekends?

next stop: the pub in southfield

No to all your questions with the exception of MC that runs the round by round. Search the thread for info on that. MC used to have an O8 on Saturdays but I don't think it runs anymore.

Hey, guys. I have a really long commute each day and was wondering if anyone has heard about any poker podcasts just specific to Michigan or Detroit poker scene? Thanks for any leads.

I'll be up early (4:00ish) on Saturday to drop someone off at the airport. I prefer to play limit (around 10-20 would be ideal, but probably unlikely) but NL is fine (probably $100max or something). Which room would be best for action at time time in the early morning/late night?

If nobody know the specifics about Detroit casinos I'll take any generalizations about how many games are open in the early morning hours.

Go to Motor City Casino. They do not spread limit but you will find...

One game of 300-2000NL with 5/10 blinds.

Two or three games of 200-500NL with 2/5 blinds.

Many soft 50-200NL with 1/2 blinds.

Call ahead up to one hour at 313-237-6735.

Good luck.

Thanks. Sounds like I'll head that way if I'm not dead tired from being up that early. Anyone else foolish enough to be there at that time?

One more question before my trip: Any advice for a decent limit player when playing low level NL? It sounds like there won't be any limit games going, so I'll have to break out the NL. However I have probably played less than 10 hours of NL and haven't studied it at all.

Thanks and maybe I'll see some of you tomorrow.

is it possible to get a box in MCC, GT or MGM? not necessarily in the poker room, but in the casinos? considering move back there, would like to know this for sake of security when playing 5/10.

I checked on this about 5 years ago and as of that time the answer is no. I don't think it has changed, but I don't know for sure. 100% sure you won't get one in the poker rooms since they don't have any

I'm sure it's been asked here before but I do not have time to search it out at the moment.

I will be in the Detroit area this June. Looking for:

best poker room downtown. (i.e. service, dealers, number or 2-5, 5-10 games running)

Also heard about some poker elsewhere. I will be spending several days near I-75 and Big Beaver. Any poker in that area?

Thanks in advance, much appreciated.

edit: I found the charity room link.

still wondering how the action is downtown these days, which room is generally regarded as the best room.
