Anyone playing the HPT this weekend? This will be my first game and just wondering how the competition usually is.
Most of the guys in GG are TAGs if they are older and the young internet kids LAGs. Should I be expecting the same kind of people?

I will just be playing cash games this weekend.

You're going to get a lot of variety. Players who are good, internet kids, some hopefuls looking to get in via satellite. The list could go on and on. Just remember that you will probably be playing against decent/good players and some phenomenal, especially when that poker pro travels here to qualify satellite vs paying the full tournament entry fee.

Pretty sure you can't sell your satellite entry ticket. At least you couldn't in the last HPT.

i played in the previous HPT this past April. built up my stack to about 100k, then slowly bled off chips until i was below 10bb's. lost a flip with about 10min left in the last level of the night. played the Sat 6pm flight, i think we played until about 2am or later? also they started maybe an hour or so late b/c the earlier flight was still wrapping up.

level of skill was all over the board. overall a few degrees below what i've experienced at the WSOP. my first table had some absolutely clueless players, very nervous and made easy targets. most 3-bets took down the pot PF. obviously as the night wore on, the level of play improved. i'd consider myself an avg player, and i never felt outclassed at any of the four tables i played at until i busted.

however, this weekend i think the competition might be tougher. seems like a lot of name pros are coming to this tourney. and since none of us can play online, this is the biggest thing going right now.

i'm playing the Sat 9am flight. can't make it up there d/t work on Thurs or Fri. the Sat 6pm flight went really late last time, and I would have been extremely tired had I made day 2 and needed to be sharp again for hours.

A friend of mine ettended this school, got dealer license and worked as a dealer in BH casino. This is pretty old news so u will have to see if they still open. He paid around $500 for classes.

Name your favorite spots to eat in Black Hawk. Orchid Garden at Isle is kind of expensive but awesome. I like the place upstairs at Mardi Gras too.

New to 2p2, first post.

Went to Blackhawk last night. Semi-regular at GG but HPT filled the room. We played 2-100 at the Lodge. Super soft tables. Found AA twice and KK once during one orbit, managed to only lose ~$150 there Made it back to even when crazy dude (CD) sat down with ~$1500 (I didn't even know that a purple chip was $500). CD is pushing ridiculous amounts of $$$ at every pot, $60 lead bets. Hero has ATo in UTG+1, CD is on my right and limps, I limp, button makes it $10 to go, 6 people see the flop, Tx8x4x. CD leads for $100, I push my stack, $190, everyone folds except CD, who instacalls. Blank on turn, A on river, he mutters something about me hitting a one outter and mucks. I'm sure I had me crushed on the flop. Had to leave 30 minutes later, he still had $1K behind, maybe next time.

BTW, wait list at Ameristar was huge for all games, too.

Seems like there are more cash players here than tourney players but we've played the 7pm tourney at The Lodge a couple times now and I wanted to give some thoughts. There’s some pretty aggressive play in the beginning (probably because of the re-buys) but overall the play is pretty decent. IMO, the problem is with the blind structure.

The original $100 buy in gets you 10k in chips and the full buy in goes to the prize pool. There are 2 re-buys available if you fall under 2k. A re-buy is $15, goes to the house, gets you 10k and can be done before the 2nd break (6th round). There's a $10 dealer add on as well that gets you 5k that’s done at the 1st break. I’d say that each time we played, 3-4 people at the table did both re-buys, 1-2 did one and the rest didn’t re-buy at all. I think most did the dealer add on, but I wasn’t at the table. The tourney was capped at 4 tables, and assuming half the players did 2 re-buys and everyone did the dealer add on, the total chips in play would be 1,000,000.

Blinds jump from 4k/8k to 6k/12k to 10k/20k then 20k/40k. Both times we played, there were 6 players left when blinds went to 10k/20k. The average stack at this point is about 8 blinds. You play all night to be in a shove fest near the bubble, which to me takes the value out of the tourney.

Food in BH is really bad in general. Pho at Lodge gets my vote. I will have to check out Orchid Garden.

Orchid Garden is great and they take Isle comps( 2$/HR).

That is pathetic. Dealers were working their butts off at the HPT. Really a sad footnote to the tournament.

Cafe on 3 at mardi gras has deals for players club members, no play required. A few months ago when i was there it was $7 for filet minion and shrimp tempura.

Ironic, considering how many times Casino got it in bad, and the board/flop bails him out. I'd be feeling a little more generous if I was luckboxing the entire way.

GG Dealers are good people for the most part. Hope that they see some bad beat money soon.
