Gonna stay at Beau Rivage for a couple of days in mid May. Do they have a regular 2/5 game these days with at least two tables? Last time I went it was hit and miss. Any reason to go to the IP poker room?

Off-poker question: daily highs in mid May should be in the 80s I assume? Is the water warm enough to swim without freezing my booty off?

Um, you want to swim in that water? You know that it is heavily polluted (even aside from BP leftovers)?
As of last August:
IP: Players were more touristy, also dealers / staff seemed more friendly (small sample size). BR was heavily dominated by the same local regs every day. Most of them not very good though. 2/5 like you said either 0 or 1 table.

Maybe he's talking about the pool? I sure as hell wouldn't step foot in that gulf either. I'm not originally from here but over the last 7 years being here I've seen enough horror stories.

Should be pushing 90 in mid may.

Based on past experience, the water isn't too bad. It's not clear at all, but doesn't feel muddy/dirty. We might add a couple days in Pensacola later, that water is obv. nicer.

Have done the ferry trip to Ship Island in the past and prolly will do that again.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

might be in the area for 1 night (probably a monday night) soon on business, driving through. what's my best play for a decent place with good food options? I like to play low limit HE, but don't necessarily have to gamble at all. Appreciate any advice, thanks.

If you don't pay for dinner, BR Prime at Beau Rivage is a very decent steakhouse. Among the couple of casino hotels in Biloxi I stayed at, Beau Rivage was also the nicest.

Thanks for the rec. I booked a Hilton chain about 5 miles from there for the time being. Might go check out the Biloxi Shuckers game. I'd really like to get some good seafood

You can't go wrong almost anywhere for seafood but Mcelroys next to the hard Rock is pretty dam good. Also half shell oyster house on lameuse St. There's another one inside the hard rock which is fairly new, I've never eaten in that one.

The IP has a pretty good dinner buffet but the beau is the best (especially for breakfast). Just a warning though no matter where you go for a buffet it will have super long lines if there are crab legs.

I'm a biloxi/gulfport casino degen and food degen so i pretty know anything and everything about all the casinos there and the food places inside and in the area.

McElroys is also almost next to the Shuckers stadium, in case you want to combine the two things.

There are a couple Cajun-ish places. I've only been to Taranto's and Half Shell Oyster House and would recommend both of them.

Thanks for the advice, guys. Unfortunately, Taranto's is closed on Mondays and I'm only there for one night... will probably do a combo of Shuckers/Beau/seafood tbd

I'm gonna go ahead and out myself here because I need poker buddies. I popped my Live Cash Game cherry at the IP the other night and that's where I made the dumbest shove in the history of poker.

I post this here in case:

1) You were there and would like to laugh at me directly (I deserve it)

2) You need fresh meat for your home games

3) You need local poker buddies like I do

4) If you were the thin young guy drinking scotch in seat 3. You especially made my first time more comfortable. You especially deserve to laugh at me directly lol

had a great time in Biloxi.

uber to shuckers game vs jax jumbo shrimp for a few innings, cool stadium.
walked to tasty tails - def recommend the cajun/vietnamese crawfish over the regular boiled crawfish
walked to IP, played 4/8 limit for 1.5 hours and made $165. A real easy game to crush but I was drunk and wanted to catch the 4th quarter of nba
Ubered (same uber driver as before lol) to twin peaks d'iberville, watched people from the area yell at each other in support of lebron/cavs and kd/warriors. pretty funny, everyone is such a bandwagoner

The next day I posted up at the Hard Rock pool for about an hour, just to take a dip and chill before heading out of town. Checked out the GN pool first but they wanted $20 and the only hot chicks there were the waitresses (who looked really damn good). So I went over to HR and it was $10, but there was no talent there either. I really liked Biloxi but I can imagine the weekends are a lot more happening than on Mondays.

I haven't been to Biloxi for several years and just saw there is a new casino with poker there that opened like 2 years ago. lol

I guess they play 1/2nl at Scarlet Pearl and it runs steady right? How is the games over there?

Theoretically they should have NL, but I was in the area late last August and there was only 4/8 limit going on at that room (didn't play, so can't comment). Also the age average at that casino was quite elevated. 4/8 limit appears to be quite the thing in Biloxi, prolly fuelled mostly by all the pensioners. Golden Nugget was kind of similar, they had a NL game one night but only limit the others. IP usually had a NL game, but had to wait a little one evening. BR was the only place with consistent NL

Just old or old even for gulf coast poker player standards?

I wonder if people in the South wait til retirement to start playing casino poker or if poker just isn't a thing anymore for younger people down there. Maybe with the exception of New Orleans, it's hard to find a table where the median aged player is under 50 anywhere from Pensacola to Lake Charles.

I was just going by poker atlas which is usually somewhat accurate. It says 1/2nl runs always. Meaning at some point each day. And $2.50/hr comps.

I moved to Biloxi for poker in 1996 when The Grand was THE room for the South East US. Even then it was a large amount of older folks.

I particularly noticed it in this casino, but the other ones didn't exactly attract a lot of the young crowd either, that's correct. Although I was there a few days before some WSOP circuit event or something like that in the IP, don't remember exactly, and some of the players I talked to were there for that. So in BR and IP it was not that bad, but still median age surely higher than a typical LV or LA table.
Yeah, NOLA is a lot different.

Go to the Beau RIvage it has the best action by far. Also the IP is not bad either.

Yea, I want to add a new poker room to my resume of over 100 that I have played in. I don't care for IP or Beau Rivage really. I lived there when Beau opened and played there often. They were giving out open comps either to be generous or by accident. You could go to the restaurant and run up as big of a tab as you could and it was all covered from a poker room comp. lol

That only lasted a week tho of course.

I noticed recently Scarlet Pearl is on Bravo App and was checking it from time to time for a week and there is never any cash games there. lol

do any of the pools get talent during the weekend? the Golden Nugget actually had a pretty cool setup. The hostesses were very hot. but man there were only fat chicks at the pool, but it was a Tuesday when I was there. Just wondering if the weekends get any better. I went over to the Hard Rock pool and there was nothing impressive there either.

Never seen any, but I am also usually there during the week.

I don't think there's any real reason for hot girls to go to Biloxi over Pensacola Beach less than 2 hours East or Panama City Beach or any other random beach in Florida. It's not like lots of them want to gamble anyway. Vegas pools and clubs are full of younger females but you see barely any actually gambling on the casino floor.

Appears Biloxi may have lost a room. Was briefly in GN Biloxi yesterday. Poker room now has sports bet kiosks. I believe I played some 4-8 limit there one time so not a big loss for me but it is still a loss. I guess it could be temp but not a good sign.

What’s the status of the open poker rooms? Seats per table, the plexiglass?
