So I'm probably leaving London back home to New Zealand in the near future.

I've seen on these forums that Sky city and the (few) casinos in New Zealand have 10% rake capped at $20 which sounds criminal.

Im just wondering if any Aucklanders or those in the know can help out with suggesting any other establishment in Auckland that has decent cash games with less rake.

When I was in Auckland in '09 the rake was 10% up to $15 IIRC. Still terrible, on the other hand, their dealers don't accept tips.

I play when ever Im up in Auckland.
Skycity is the only casino in Auckland and the rake is 10% up to $12 (last time I played). New Zealand gaming laws dont allow dealers to take tips, which does help on the whole rake issue.
As far as other cash games go you will have to find a home game or maybe some sort of underground poker game. Laws here dont allow cash games to be run for a profit unless you have a casino licence (which there is only 1 for the whole of Auckland).

Their website still boasts "providing poker like no other". I e-mailed em about their poker room but havent had any reply yet.

They have some 'pub' poker league dont they? might be a good place to find where people play cash games

I'm pretty sure the cash game rake is still brutal...

...however the rake on higher stakes tournaments was reasonable (e.g. 500+50)

Sky city has one of the coolest poker rooms I've ever played in. High rake but no tips but a really nice atmosphere and awesome smoking deck.

other than the u.s. most countries look at poker as a way to make alot off of every player and expect them to lose.

they dont understand that you need some winning players to keep your room alive and healthy.

They run a $2/$3 NL Hold 'em game, capped at $300. The biggest game is $5/$5 PLO, occasionally they have HE at $5/$5. Go play late at night on Thursday - Saturday against the drunks, easy money.

Rake is still crap though so better off finding a home game somewhere.

went there sunday they had 2/4 nl running all night. games were sick, prob worse than 2nl on stars. ppl were just donating.
