They just showed the Revel garage with several feet of water in it on the local news... Parts of the boardwalk have been reported to be slamming into garage doors on houses a couple of blocks inland... And the storm is only now touching land.
This one is titled "80 feet of boardwalk floating free at Atlantic and New Hampshire Ave."
This probably isn't standing anymore:
White Horse Parkway, the strip where some of us got cheap rooms and others just drove through to the casinos:
This is pretty unreal. I hope that everyone got out of the city safely.
As for the future, this is going to hit the casinos - who are already reeling from summer ending, the economy still in recovery and competition from other new casinos - really badly. Aside from lost revenue from being closed, the properties on the water will undoubtedly need a lot of work when the water finally retreats.
I would not be surprised if the boardwalk rooms are unable to open for weeks and have to spend millions just to reopen. How will this affect Revel, which has already been struggling just to survive?
I realize that this is terrible for the region and everyone who lives and works there. But this being a poker forum, I am looking at it from that perspective. But it's pretty bleak... Good luck to everyone involved out there.
