I really enjoyed playing there due to its character (and characters), but I recognize that it wasn't for everyone so I don't expect it to do any better than the other boardwalk rooms if/when it reopens.
lol! (So true)

I think for me it's just wishful thinking; there was something about that(dingy, smelly, degen room that I really liked) but I can't see how it's going to be anything other than a fairly lifeless room filled only by the true local( and I mean *local*)regs of AC. But playing stud at the Taj is way better than playing it at the Borg..don't ask me why but it just is. Better chips perhaps. Less noisy. i miss the old days...

Well, if the younger kids who are serious about their game were smart, they should be looking to play at the Taj with all the older folks and the drunks! No, seriously, their games are way better.

And you're right, no one handed comps out as liberally as the Taj; best Floorpeople, very friendly, liberal with giving free TIME...it was a great room for what it was but I go all the way back to when they opened their doors so I've always been extremely partial to this room because there was NOTHING that compared to it back in the day! They need to get in some top notch management whose going to fight tooth and nail to regain customers. Stan would've been great, he's done wonders for Borgata.

that's the thing i dont get ,, taj will and did give out comps 3-6 days a week for just poker,, even now that i rarely set my foot there to gamble i get weekends when i want . borgata did an amazing job and you have to give them credit .

There is an expression that goes like this "You can put lipstick on it,a scarf and call it Betty but a pig is still a pig". To start with this room needs new management!!! if it opens with the guy who ran it into the red, it doesn't stand much chance of lureing the good crowd back short of monster give away promotions, and we all know that won't last long. Im sure you can still get rooms just shake the hand of the host, he is handing out towels in the health club upstairs.

I think a big issue for Taj Poker Room is managing the cost center. The room was too big in later years and as a result could not show profitability. If it reopens as a 12 table room, it will do just fine with four to five stud (mostly 1 5), two to three 2 4 limit and two to three 1 2 nl tables running on most days.

A lot of rooms like Turning Stone or Rivers are quite profitable with that level of activity. It does not need to be (or beat) Borgata to do fine.

4-5 Stud tables? While that would be nice to see, where do they get the players from?

Sadly, I think that those games, especially the 1-5 game, are gone for good. I'ld love to be proven wrong on this though.

what about a pink chip game?,, there can be a niche there in running pink chip limit and pink chip Omaha high and hi/lo

Hello to all, just to clarify, the Poker Room at Turning Stone currently has 32 tables. I'm not sure how long its been since you have played here at Turning Stone but I can assure you that things have changed quite a bit in the last 14 months.

Mod edit: Removed some info that wasn't suited for this thread, but if you have questions for Frankie, he'll be happy to answer them over in the Turning Stone thread.

Why would a Sunday bus at the crack of dawn to AC fill up?

I mean Friday afternoon/early evening sure. I have taken those in the past and even then those don't always fill up (at least in the winter, summer almost guaranteed to). Just having a hard time imagining why anyone would want to go to AC on Sunday morning that early, just seems like a super bizzare time to leave lol

People who would be taking that bus, i.e., people who play frequently but are not high rollers, likely get free or reduced rooms Sunday to Thursday.

Frankie, no affront to Turning Stone at all. I just meant that most of the time (aside from big promotion days and tourney series) rooms like TS and Rivers have 7-9 cash tables going at a given time and they seem to be doing just fine.

So, if Taj manages their costs well, they can be profitable and successful at that level of activity. Taj Poker Room does not need to have Borgata or '05 Taj level of activity to be a success. That would be easy to do if they reopen as a smaller room, because unlike TS it is unlikely Taj will be able to successfully run tourneys.

And by the way, I played in Turning Stone 4-5 times this year and will likely play in the Black Chip Bounty tourney tomorrow.

Has anyone who has taken the Greyhound to AC recently noticed how Bally's takes FOREVER if at all to credit bus bonuses to your player's cards these days? My guess is they are trying to weed out people who go there play the bonus and leave.

Or maybe they just banned me specifically from being able to get comps. Last 4 times I got off at Bally's, no bonus. Harrah's, Tropicana, Caesars etc works just fine. Think it is because Bally's has the most drop offs so they are the most strict.

Just a heads up. Give them action or they will probably not honor the bonus.

They changed it at harrahs as well (took it this Friday evening). They swipe your totalrewards card and it takes 30mins for the bonus to activate.

Miss the days they gave you a coupon valid 3 months. Id get 4-5 of those and play it all at once.

I take the Chinatown bus to Bally's and have never given a dollar of play to Bally's. Always just play the comps and then head straight to Borgata. Never had a problem getting the bonuses.

Making my first visit to AC since I moved out of PA 25+ years ago, before I even played much poker. Wife and I are meeting some other family there for a weekend in early May.

We will be a Nugget, some family at Harrah's and some others on the BW (not sure where). We will have cars so not locked into marina v. BW. We could do both (in fact I know we will spend some time outside casinos on the BW.)

Obviously "the spot" for poker in AC is Borg and expect the largest part of poker time will be there. But what else? Both poker and non-poker activity suggestions welcome. Along with food suggestions. (I know my wife will want some good, hole in the wall, NY style pizza. I am looking for a good cheese steak.)

So please fire away with you ideas a recs. Post are great but PMs in if you want.

For cheese steak I think everyone one on here, and everyone you'll meet at tables will say Whitehouse (They have other really good subs for the family too).
