Hi all

Reading Ray Zee's book at the moment and had a couple of questions about the Stud8 'Starting Hands' section that I'm hoping people can help with.

1. Three suited low cards doesn't seem to be explicitly mentioned - would these hands rank around the same as categories 4 and 5, and be played in a similar way?

2. Re. Category 5 - two low cards plus an ace: advice is that this is one of the best starting hands and that it should frequently be played strongly, as long as low cards are live. But Category 11 - three low cards to an eight - is only playable if it includes an ace and then only if it's the only low hand working or if heads-up against a probable weak hand. What's the difference here? Is it that in 'Category 5' the two low cards need be 7s or lower, or 6s or lower?

Thanks.

I don't have the book handy but 3 low suited cards is a monster. You prefer a multiway pot but also definitely get more money in there if you can.

A 3 card 8 with an ace is marginal. Prefer that headsup or short handed. Fold if multiway.

Just try and think if you have a push or pull hand.

Zee is good, but so is Ted Forrest's chapter in Full Tilt strategy guide. Great discussion on this.

Joe Tall's DC vids are solid, well worth the money.

I searched for Zee's book and can't find it but 3 low suited is an excellent starting hand w/ caveats as always.

When he says two low cards plus an ace, "two low cards" means 5 or lower, aka wheel cards.

low cards are very low cards. two low with and ace is great and three low suited is so good you wet your pants.

and in all forms of poker dont ever forget and remember always that your hand is only as strong as compared to what your opponents have.
in stud games you get to see some of their cards so it is much easier to rate your hand.
