Stud8- splashing around

Seat 5 is a laggy overaggro guy who doesn't really understand split pot games. Seat 1 is unknown, seems loose passive.

I know my limp on 3rd might be a little loose and my call on 4th really loose...The thing is that the players in this game are really bad, they give too many free cards, give way too much action to scary boards, and lose way too much on the big bet streets with hands that are drawing slim, so I'm trying to sneak in a bit more and jam a huge pot if I catch really good. Do you guys think this is just too loose?

20/40 Stud hi/lo, $3 ante, $5 bring-in

3rd street:

Seat 1: Q calls
Seat 2: 9 folds
Seat 3: 5 calls
HERO: 56J calls
Seat 5: 2 Brings-in $5
Seat 6: T folds
Seat 7: K calls
Seat 8: 5 calls
Seat 9: 3 folds

4th street:

Seat 1: QJ checks calls
Seat 3: 5T checks folds
HERO: 56J7 checks calls
Seat 5: 27 Bets $20
Seat 7: KA checks folds
Seat 8: 59 checks folds

5th street:

Seat 1: QJ4 Bets $40

6th street:

Seat 1: QJ44 checks calls

Wouldn't mind a raise on Fifth so maybe see cards on Sixth and river for free while drawing to scoop or you can knock out the other low draw. C/f Six.

Re: Stud8- splashing around

I would think a 5th street raise is pretty standard in that spot. Not just a sometimes move, but an optimum move. Am I out of line at all? The one dead 4 is a disappointment, but the chance to ko the other low draw seems too good to miss.

I guess I am asking, why wouldn't you do it in this spot?

Seat 5 isn't folding because he knows he has a live low draw, and that type of player isn't folding a low draw for any amount of bets, even if he's behind. To be honest, my board could probably be A53 and he would still call with his 7-draw.

Also, what am I really representing to the high hand with J73 showing and a dead J out? He's passive so raising might shut him down on 6th anyway, but it just feels a little weird to raise with that board.

Re: Stud8- splashing around

Raise on Fifth is for value with a live low draw and gutshot. It's a nice bonus if the other low draw folds, but it's not critical for making the raise.

Re: Stud8- splashing around

With diamonds completely live and two babies in my hand, I call third street all day long and like it. On fourth you've got three to a flush, three to a low, three to a straight, and your call closes the action. If all these guys say it's a fold, maybe it's a fold, but calling isn't terrible. I do like a raise on fifth. Whether it's for value or to knock out the other low, who cares? Not that I necessarily fold myself, but things went south in a big hurry on sixth. You had the foresight to keep the pot small so it's easier to get away from this dog.

Re: Stud8- splashing around

browsing through some old threads, got a question here:

when i first read this i was thinking call 6th (vs a rather innocuous board, right?) but most people are saying fold here. makes me think i have a horrible leak somewhere.

just how bad is a call here?

Re: Stud8- splashing around

in this particular hand you should be drawing dead for low and super slim for high.

Re: Stud8- splashing around

gotcha, ok.

so the bring-in being tagged as laggy, overaggro, and a novice to split-pot games: is that an insignificant factor? cause that stuff typically makes me think CALL but i'd much rather know i'm wrong and by how much, rather than make similar calls in the future based on things that are really non-factors.

thanks
