I played this morning on Stars and a bunch of opens were uncontested. Plus all the hands just contested HU and won on 4th or 5th.

Yea this is probably a bad open in a fishy live game where every hand is contested or a game with low ante. But then, in a game with a lot of fishy players the value of every hand you play goes up because of skill edge.

not all fish make the same mistakes. the mistake of playing too many starting hands is greatly diminished if the antes are high and/or opponents steal very liberally.

I'm going to nitpick here (sorry Steve) but the ante/BI ratio in your game is quite different from the structure in the OP. I do agree with your earlier posts about the rest of the hand though.

Played yesterday. The mix was Ohi, O8, Stud, Stud8, Razzdugi, Badugi, Badacey, Badeucey and with 64 hands per rotation we only got in four or five rounds of Stud8 before I had to leave. In that time one completion went unchallenged. I remain convinced that stealing in these games should be done under the most favorable conditions or with better playability because it is so likely you'll need to play the hand.

As to the ante, the games I play typically have about 1BB in the pot after the bring-in, which is looser than OP with .77BB in the pot, but not radical. I have played in games with as much as 1.25BB in the pot to start. In live games, at limits high enough to be worth playing a large ante is more common than online.

It seems like in fishy live games you don't need to do that much other than play good cards. But is that really different than any other game?

In fishy NLH you can just sit and play good cards and profit, but that isn't always the most profitable way to play.

So the question for you electrical is how much of a skill edge do you have in the game? The bigger the skill edge the more value you will gain from playing all the borderline hands. So while you may win less steals you win more big bets on later streets due to opponent mistakes.

i've been playing at least one live session of OE for the past six months or so. same game as electrical. i think i've seen a steal working maybe three different times. watched for it yesterday, didn't see it occur once.

The OE game is 15-30 in Chicago. The limit mix is 50-100 at the Horseshoe in Hammond, just outside Chicago, although there also are private games with the same mix and stakes. It's a great location if you want to play a variety of games.
