This isn't a particularly wild game, very standard meek play at this table in this tournament.

First thought before I complete: my hand is dead, but I probably easily have the best hand.

When it gets back to me:
I don't have the best hand and I can't hit anything to improve.

I don't play stud hi or tournaments much, but it seems like a perfectly reasonable fold to me. If you don't get any responses it's probably because folding is obvious.

Maybe tournament vs cash game affects things (i.e. fold this in a tournament for stack preservation), but I would think a $2 tournament people will definitely overplay their hands. With that said, it seems difficult to define these two players' raising range.

3 hearts are dead, is the J really raising with 3 hearts with an upcard lower than the K completing in the earliest position with a K dead? Also KQJ 3 straight is heavily blocked. So does that mean his range is (AA)J and (JJ)J exactly with no A dead, the latter being way less likely with us holding a J? Maybe...I'm curious what others think.

Then onto the 8 3betting. This seems suicidal without (AA)8 or (88)8 but it's improbable they both have wired aces.

So basically our question is, what is the chance at least one of these raises are $2 tournament spews?

Seems fine unless a maniac is involved, the best case against reasonable players is still pretty marginal and without improving to 2p or better our visibility is awful

Its not impossible for us to be ahead of something like ajx and 3 diamonds but sometimes we are really far behind

Uhh...I do not think I am folding here.

His diamonds are live or he could easily have (8A)8 and raise knowing that a second king is showing..

This is going to sound snarky but WTF? Top pair in a $2 tourney (yes, I understand and appreciate a thread w/ content) doesn't require much thought, imo. IOW, I wouldn't fold.

ETA: YOU are trying to play good but let's consider that a $2 tourney is just above play money. Who knows what these ppl are doing? It's often likely that they're simply betting and raising for yucks and don't really care what happens.

i play this tournament almost daily and while there is some of that going on, most of the time people play quite passive and straightforward. this sort of line doesn't happen very often at all.

if they were out of line a lot before i would have noticed by now.

there's also a lot of regs and when you factor in the next buyin level is a huge jump to $11 and also when you play this thing a lot like i do, you see there is some good play going on.

i also think you're looking at it on a very basic level, no offence intended, dead cards matter and i can't really improve my hand easily.

i think as well if one has trouble respecting small money, one will not easily carry over that discipline to big money

Ok, then. I don't play many tourneys (played small ones when we had FT and Stars) so I'll ask at what point do you make your stand? You are the short stack minus t300 after your complete. You're going to have to play a hand to the end pretty soon so why not this one?
