Stud Hi-Lo: How Many Dead Cards Do You Tolerate? Stud Hi-Lo: How Many Dead Cards Do You Tolerate?

If there is a beginner stud hi-lo forum that I've not found, please move this there.

My basic question is how many dead cards turn a monster starting hand into an unplayable hand. For example, if you have 234 how many aces and 5s and s will you have to see before you don't even go to 4th street?

I'm coming from the stud high school of thought that dead cards can kill your prospects and you should only be playing when most of your cards are live (or you can steal the antes and bring in). However, I think my instincts for how live my stud hi-lo hands have to be is off and I'm either folding too tight or calling too loose. I can't even tell which it is.

well there are alot more cards that help you in hi low when you have that kind of hand. its hard to find a spot to fold it on 3rd or even 4th and maybe 5th if you brick after putting in a raise or so on 3rd..

I was thinking that might be a bad example for that reason. But I'll often have something like 753 and see two 4s, a 6, and an A out. If the goal is always to be playing for the whole pot, I don't like that hand, but I don't have a firm understanding of when a hand is not even worth peeling. I mean, I know to dump Q96, but it can't be the case that any three low cards are always playable (although people act as though this is the case).

first you have to learn the starting hands, then adjust. based on other cards showing, aggression etc.

dont base your actions on how other players play cards as few you play with will play anywhere near a good game. learn the proper plays from some good books and the forums.
