Ni han. I try to save plays like this for bubbling WSOP events, but it was prolly just as much fun at 30/60.

Joe - how did the river play out on that hand? I'm guessing this was one of the tourists? If you were bet into, did you raise considering how dead villain's hand was?

Off topic a bit, but there are almost never tourists in this game, plenty of locals who aren't as experienced - but tourists are not common. When you do see a tourist, they tend to be better than the locals. BTW, I don't consider the Commerce 20/40 stud regs to be tourists - they are "travelers".

Ya, if the non-locals in that game are usually from the Commerce 20-40 game, then they sure don't fit the regular definition of a poker tourist. I was at the Bellagio a few months back, and that game was going five handed. One of the players was a solid 20-40 player from Commerce. I stayed away. With the likes of Joe and David Singer in that game, sounds like there are better places to risk the bank roll.

I play in this game on occasion, it's not my primary focus so you probably would see me play this game less than 10x a year now. Trust me, the game is still good even with the tougher lineups. Nothing to be afraid of. Last time I played it was myself, Ben Yu, and Singer with a bunch of locals + one good youngish tourist. Outstanding game, so many mistakes witnessed! And even though Ben didn't make a single mistake that I know of (Ben is an outstanding player), it was still a dream game!

When the 100/200 was a regular thing at the Bell, tourists were usually the A players. Sometimes they would be putting on an act, but they were seldom the soft spots.

I was at the Bell and on the list when you were in this game, it sucked compared to the game I was in on Friday.

I got c/r and nearly folded but the pot wasn't $1100. It was a one of the regulars (who makes and can break the game (when he leaves.))

Thanks a lot for all the information. I confirm the 2-10 Stud hi-lo is played at Suncoast on Tuesday, with 20$ bets on the last street. When I went it was no qualifier for low nor for high.
I can't tell much about how the game is as I only could stay a very short time.

The Monday game (Stud-8, Jacks+ for high) is always the strongest game and the hardest to get a seat in when they open the table. A few players don't play the Friday game (Stud-9, Jacks+ for high) so it tends to be slightly weaker.

The Tuesday game (Stud Hi-Lo Regular) is still fairly new and runs hot and cold each week. Sometimes a full game when it starts at 12 and will last into the evening. And at other times it will start 6 handed and be dead at 2pm.

With $4/8 Stud Hi-Lo and a Mixed Game running at Suncoast several days a week also, it really influences the numbers in these morning Stud games.

Anybody know why they play these odd games with qualifiers for high instead of regular Stud 8 or better? Stud 8 is my favorite game and I would love if there wasa regular game around, but I'm not particularly interested in these oddball offshoots.

Suncoast do offer normal Stud-8 at low limits, and Bellagio offers it at higher limits.

However, for these two "odd" games, well Stud Hi-Lo Regular is a fairly standard poker game that has been round for a long time but isn't played that often. People like it due to the way it plays and that it creates more action than the normal Stud Hi-Lo 8-or-Better version.

As for the "Hoggie" game (8-low and Jacks+ for the high), it actually use to be more crazy where it was called "911" and it was a 9-low and two-pair+ for the high. However this game was brought to Suncoast by a select few players that are still in the game.

So basically it's the game that they, and some of their friends wanted to play and it has stuck ever since.

In most situations that new players take a seat, they tend to prefer it over normal Stud-8 because you can make a six-low against a seven-low and scoop. Throw in the double bet on seventh street and the $2-10 spread limit can be a profitable game for people.

Unfortunately lower limits aren't really beatable after the rake. And I am at Bellagio nearly every day now, never have seen even an interest list for Stud 8. The only time I have ever seen a Stud 8 (not mixed) game was at the Rio during WSOP.

totally agree
in split pot game it is not easy to beat the rake with tight players and small edge.
and those tight players usually play correctly at least for first two street...
