Full ring game, MP completes an Ace with a couple of low cards behind. I defend (Qc4c)3c in bring-in.

4th street. Villain - (xx)A6. Hero - (Qc4c)3c7h. He bets, I call

5th street. Villain - (xx)A6Jr. Hero - (Qc4c)3c7h2s. He checks...

How does this street change if I catch an 8? What about a 4 or a 3?

Instinctively you want to bet because you are showing a scarier board plus it balances for times you have it. But at the same time, you know he probably isn't going to fold.

His check is probably a sign he has a pair, or he doesn't want to bet 4 to a low with his ace high.

I think either way, if you bet he's calling, but if it comes a scare card for you and brick for him he's folding the next street anyway. If it's the other way around, then you can fold 6th and save a big bet.

It's generally a bad idea to bluff when you know someone is going to call you.

Save the bet and check.

i'd bet. dude could have 3suited that has nothing now, or something like K3 with a 2 suit, or weak wired pair that he might fold, and he's not betting into you on 6th very often at all. i just look at it like, on average 1 bet is getting in on either 5th or 6th and i'd rather it go in on 5th and more importantly, you get to realize your equity when he pairs and you brick, he makes a lo and you pair, or you both brick.

Too nitty to fold 4th? I'd bet 5th as played.

you're getting 5:1. way too nitty to fold. a lot of cards you can pick up on 5th that you can snap raise.

He may fold a pair of sixes here.

How live are queens?

And betting this hand 100% of the time when checked to me.

Checking isn't the worst but turns your hand face up imo, and throws away fold equity for him on 6th if he bricks and you catch like an open pair of twos or something.

I would bet, villain is showing weakness and our board is frightening, when our bet is wrong it is normally a small mistake, when villain folds it is normally a large mistake

Breaking your range against observant opponents is the death kneel of stud.

Another thing to consider is if you bet there are no cards that don't drastically improve your hand while leaving you in position to check 6th if you do brick.

Have to know if clubs are live and queens as well to even consider continuing on 3rd. When hero misses on 4th continuing doesn't seem like a good idea. I hate coming with flush draws in stud 8 that don't have low possibilities or straight possibilities.

i wouldn't be surprised if there is a theoretic check back range here. ur range equity is probably ~60% so betting ur whole range here can't be bad. also u will pretty much never be check-raised.

granted low fold equity, it isn't like you have 0 fold equity. maybe he'll toss a pair of 6s. maybe he has a rough 8. maybe he had 3 flush. maybe he had 22-55 or 99+ and decides to toss. u never know.

if u have some history and u know he's never tossing 5th (and will value bet aggressively if he binks and u brick next street) then this is probably a good candidate to check back.
