How come more people don't play razz? How come more people don't play razz?

It's such a fun game, but it's one of the least played games in poker.

How come?

No money in razz, Dr. Razz is solid.

Next to no razz on FTP; only Razz I've found is on PS....and (certainly in UK) no chance of finding it live...

any know of any sites which actually have Razz...Carbon/Merge?

I know, right? Carbon "has" it, but rarely runs. Sometimes razitup sits at every level and will net a fish for about 15 minutes tho

There are often two guys who sit at the heads up tables on FTP - never seem to play each other though. Lets hope Razz doesn't descend into the kind of farce seen at High Stakes LHE these days...

With the newest pokerstars update razz (along with all stud games) went into the "other" section.

So expect even less players now.

As far as most people are concerned, it's always been in the "other" section

Because the first introduction to razz 99% of people had was on the wsop 2004 broadcast where all anyone talked about was how dumb the game was and how much even pros hate it. After that it became cool to hate it.

Odd - it's still in Stud on my PS and Stud still has it's own tab...

@Gobbo - you're probably right.....

I thought that made the game more popular than it was before.

More people don't play razz because your typical razz player is dead.

heh, that's original. Reality is a little different tho. A lot of the players who picked up razz after the poker boom were 20somethings, even if they primarily play it as part of a mixed game.

Lots of razz action on Stars but lately its been a reg fest.Even down to stakes as low as 0,50-1$ you see 5-6 people that seem to be always there and are very competent. It only gets worse at (European) night hours.

Seems that game selecting is the only way to go nowdays..

I'll give it a try.

Maybe because razz is a straight forward game, not like five card stud but like... RAZZ.

Razz is maybe the less variance game there is and that means you have less swings but you also win less.

I think razz is like: you love the first time you play or you hate it forever.

Also I find razz a boring game to play full table, short-handed is interesting.

Mason Malmuth wrote something about Hold'em having a perfect mix of luck (for the fish) and skill (for the sharks) and this accounted for its popularity.

Assuming that MM is right then it would account for the unpopularity (in varying degrees) of everything that is not Hold'em.

Not really an action game, it's hard to bad players to find an excuse to play a bad hand, the bring in basically never has a playable hand, and shorthanded really isn't that interesting as there are just antes in the post (as opposed to large fixed blinds)

what is an "action game"? One that builds big pots? Then yes, typically razz has smaller pots than other limit games.

Otherwise, you give bad players way too much credit, and an occasional bring-in hand way too little credit.

TDL is an action game. Most often at least two players are contesting a pot and it often goes to the river. It happens much more in Razz that you can go for a whole round and sometimes not make it past the cheap street.

I like Razz though, I called it for much of Day 2 in the Dealer's Choice as a means of slowing down tough aggressive tables. And one guy did actually call my raise with a K upcard.
