I have been wanting to learn more about stud. I started looking for books to broaden my knowledge base. I have noticed that the most recent books are from around 2003. Has the game changed enough to make these obsolete or is good info from that era still applicable?

Games haven't changed that much over the years. The best books are still applicable. These would be Supersystem 1 and Seven Card Stud for Advanced players.

FWIW I'll have a few articles in the 2+2 Magazine on Stud in the upcoming months

Thanks so much.

Side question,
If I have Super/System 2 which has chapters on stud8 and O8, is there any additional information in Ray Zees High-Low book?

Is the 2+2 magazine available online? I'd be interested in your articles. Thanks.

I would prefer Ray Zee's book over SS/2. Also, he reads/posts here occaisonally so you might be able to get your questions answered.

Is the 2+2 magazine available somewhere *other* than online? The online version is here:

Yeah get the Zee book. I also think Ted Forrest's chapter on Stud8 in the Full Tilt Tournament book is very good

I would recommend "Championship 7 Stud" by Stern, McEvoy, and Johnson. I includes Stud Hi, Stud 8 or Better, and Razz. It's a good intro Stud book to read before Zee. It's more indepth than SS2. SS2 doesn't have Razz or Stud Hi. Just a chapter on Stud 8 (which is pretty good). Todd Brunson who wrote the chapter is one of the best Stud 8 players in the world. I would also suggest watching the WSOP 2016 videos for these events. This year has hole cards and great commentators who are great players such as Brian Rast etc.

Championship Stud has decent Razz and S8 advice but I would not recommend the Stud chapter. I just think some of the advice is just too weak right. Don't have it in front of me now but IIRC it suggests folding something like K82 all diamonds even though you have a live overcard and flush draw

Othmers book on stud hi is a great book. You can pick it up on amazon super cheap also because its out of print. Besides Sklanskys book, I feel that Othmers title is one of the best 7stud hi tools a serious player can have in his/her arsenal. Good luck.

I said as in "intro." For deeper level thinking, you will need to look elsewhere.

You can also run your own simulations with Pro Poker Tools. Here's the link http://www.propokertools.com/simulations

But there is a difference between intro and wrong advice though

If you want something else I think Keith Sexton's stud chapter in the full tilt strategy guide was pretty good

I'm a winning stud player and have been playing for decades. I think some of the best reading you can do on stud is here on this forum. I find some of the posts here so good that they are literally stunning. It seems that many of the posters here have done much original research and a lot of original thinking. It amazes me at what they are willing to share.

Post some hands.
