At title: Is 1-3 hi-lo stud game beatable?
0.5$ ante
1 $ bring-in
1-3 spread limit
usually the tip is half dollar
house rake is $4 ante drops on 4th street

players are all seniors just killing their time
they play that game everyday 10am-12pm
in about 30 players, i see 2 people can consistently make money by the end of the day. players call them "professionals"
One day I record the "professionals" who start the day with $40 dollars at 9 am.
he receive a early bird promotion at 1pm for $20 and put it into his poket.
by the end of the day when the game broke he have a little more than 80 dollar
lets say he have 85$ at 12am.
(85-40)/15hrs of playing=3$/hr which is one big bet/hour
plus early bird promotion (20$) and he can eat at the casino buffet for free
he is also qualify for the casino hourly cash drawing

all other 7 ppl at the table have to reach to their poket and reload

i guess it is okay for a retire senior

I play it when i was waiting for tournament or other games.
I track it using a software.
I play 15 hour and I was up 15$ or so (some money is deducted due to tipping for various of reasons in casino)
therefore I think this game is not profitable and barely beatable.

compare to 4/8 hi lo stud with 0.25 ante this 1-3 is horrible

Why would a casino even spread 1-3? Surely that's losing money for them.

In the last few years of playing (thousands of hours total), I have only seen 1 spread limit Stud game and it was 1-5, only saw the room run that game one time, and when I asked the next time I was there they said it wouldn't be a regular thing (and hinted that it would never happen again).

I would love to find a similar Razz game as that's about my favorite way to spend a few hours

That rake is gross.

On a related note, the 6/12 and 8/16 HORSE games at MD Live max rake $2 per hand. Would be great to see more action in those games so they could get a little bigger.

its a game spread for the old timers who just want to last and waste time. and in casinos that dont have many games so anything is better than no game.

also in casinos that have lots of people with little money. they spread a cheap game and rake it to death with no winners but a steady stream of new players. that was the way it was in vegas decades back.

Sycuan in San Diego has had 1-3 stud 8 since the early 90's - drop was lower then. I just looked on Bravo and it is running right now as I type. As Ray Zee said - retired people killing time without getting too buried. I haven't played it since the 90's but I remember this - lots of players in and checking it around unless they have aces or a scoop hand.
