I'll be driving through the area next Friday and want to stay and play at Parx for a night. Which hotel(s) would you recommend? Looking for something safe and close/easy to get to the casino.

Also, I don't know anything about the area ... what's traffic like late in the afternoon?

Look on Bravo for deals the casino has with hotels. There's a few on the property. I've never stayed there but heard they're all decent. Traffic is dependent upon where you're coming from. 95 from Philly stinks. Route one is ok.

I've stayed a few times now at Best Western. There's a bar in the lobby, 2 pools, a jacuzzi, it's pretty solid for $85/night + tax. It's about a 3 minute drive from Parx

Anyone know if the $500+$500 bounty tournament will be held in the new poker room or not? I remember reading somewhere that some of the event is to host in the new room.

Yes, that tournament is in the new poker room. Almost every tourney is in the new poker room with the exception of the $300 day1s/day2 and the $500 day1s.

Thank you, will try to make it up there on Sunday as long as I don't play PLO for 24hrs on Saturday.

Yeah I've been jumping between 2/2 and 5/5 and sometime that 2/2 is a better game.

Thinking about visiting this place this weekend for poker. I've won quite a bit here back in 2015 and 2016.

Won 2.5k in PLO and another 2.5k in BJ back in 2015.
Won 1.5k in PLO back in 2/2017.

Heard a lot has changed, anyone got any tips/advice or stories to share?

Well it's in the main building now. Other than that, not too much different.

Yet? We've had wifi for... 6 years?

ETA: Unless you mean it went down recently, which is something I didn't know and have no input on.

Does anyone regularly make the drive to Parx from Manhattan/Brooklyn on Fridays or weekends? If so and you want a passenger, let me know. Happy to pay for the ride and split gas etc.

How does the 1/2 NL play at Parx? For live poker, I'm more of a fan of Limit, but since Parx doesn't really have low limits, the next step would be 1/2 NL.

I've always shied away from playing live NL because I feel like I'd get bullied around and I'm concerned about taking $100 and have someone stack me on one hand.

I used to play 2/4 Limit at a casino in New York and be able to play for hours.

EDIT: I've always wanted to try a tournament, too, but the buy-ins are steep.

EDITx2: I haven't played a hand of poker in forever when it got shut down in the US.

Like any other 1/2 game.... 5-6 people who are terrible and 2-3 people who range from terrible to borderline competent

You can play 2 4 limit at Borgata or 2-4-6 at Harrahs Philadelphia if those are your games of choice

Yeah, I like 2-4 Limit. I was trying to consider the distance. Harrahs and Borgata are a little bit of a distance compared to Parx.

I've walked into the Parx Poker Room a couple times, but never played. I feel like a small fish in a big pond, like I'm just a scrub to the guys who normally play, and I'd get eaten alive.

Its not a small fish in a big pond issue as most players in 1 2 games are not particularly good. However, you need to have some understanding of NLHE, as unlike in limit entire stacks often go in by the river and you can get felted or double up in 1 hand.

Therefore, if limit is your preferred game, it is worth an extra half an hour drive imho
Or, you can always play Wednesday $80 or Sunday $100 NLHE tournaments at Parx if you wanna practice NLHE w/o putting a lot of $$$ on the line

Sands in Bethlehem has a 3/6 limit game. That’s probably the closest to what you are used to.

16,000 posts as an occasional 2/4 player- wow!
